precancerous polyp

I had a colonoscopy last week and the doctor found more pockets in my colon than normal and it was determined that i not only have crohns but i also have diverticulitis. The doctor also found a polyp that they determined was precancerous. I dont know what this means and i am scared. I will be talking to my doctor on monday but i would appreciate any info or words of advice that anyone has.

What your doc does will depend on the type of precancerous polyp. Most pre cancerous polyps are the run of the mill ( the general population gets them) type. These can be common. Those are typically removed and then you have regular colonoscopies to monitor. Then there's the type that are associated with having UC (not sure if they're associate to Crohn's though). Those may require a more aggressive approach.

Try not to worry too much. I know it's concerning, but it's not uncommon either and most don't require anything more than just regular colonoscopies, so they don't turn into cancer.

50% of people will develop polyps in their digestive tract at some point in life. Mine was first found in 1985. They removed them. 5 yrs. ago, I had another colonoscopy and they found only 1. Usually a Dr. will suggest a colonoscopy every 5 yrs. of polyps are found. Sometimes they suggest a high fiber diet for Diverticulitis and a basic diet of 20% meat, the rest being cooked vegetables and fruit. Greek Yogurt is the best for the digestive tract but, it is not as palatable for some as say, Activia. These are the things my Dr. shared with me. Hope this helps.

If you have IBD and precancerous polyps they sometimes suggest colonoscopies more frequently. Just depends on the polyp, the size etc
