I have just finished an incredible book entitled "My Leaky Body" by Julie Devaney.
This is the incredible story of a young womans epic journey from diagnosis to jpouch surgery and recovery to her new carreer as a teacher/performer for young interns and practicing Docs.
I'll quote from the back cover;
"Part memoir, part love story, part revolutionary manifesto, this raw harrowing, often gruesomely funny tale recounts Devaney's journey through hospitals and doctor's offices. Based upon her popular one-woman show, My Leaky Body lays bare the deficiencies in health care, creating a road map for patients and all who want to transform the system"
"Julie Devaney's startling tale of illness and resistance is gripping angry, sharply funny and eye opening. It's a revelation to get insiight into her lived experiences and sure is to find resonances in all of us"
Although this story is based around her experience in the Canadian health care system I'm absolutely positive the vast majority of her insights apply to any modern western health care system.
I only have moderate UC that is mostly controlled by Asacol, however this story moved me deeply.
I encourage all UC/C sufferers to give this book a read. It will affect you in many different ways but ultimately you will be better off for the experience.

You must mean systems other than the U.S. where many millions of us have to go without medical care.

It's not so much an indictment of systems ie, single payer vrs private rather the way docs and hospitals treat patients. I can't say enough about how educational as well as inspiring this book can be.

This is actually on my read list, so that's cool that you mentioned it. I'll need to bump it up.
