Crohn's disease is a systemic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) of unknown cause, that results in chronic inflammation of the intestinal tract. It can affect the entire gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus, and can also cause complications outside of the gastrointestinal tract. There is no known medical or surgical cure for Crohn's disease, but there are many medical...

I have just been released from hospital after spending 3 days in there and underwent a gastroscope and then, yesterday, a colonoscopy. Even thought the doctor put me under sedation, i remained conscious the entire time and cried and screamed uncontrollably throughout the entire 20 minutes of the procedure. i even watched him remove polyps. I was in hysterics from the pain the rest of the day, and things got worse as i started vomiting, and my IV went into my tissue and caused massive swelling.
Even though i have been diagnosed with UC, he still cannot explain where the large amount of blood is coming from. He has suggested it maybe coming from the small intestine and getting through the colon fast. But my blood is bright red. Does anyone have experience like that?
I am in a really bad place right now, as I have gone through pain i can't even describe and still no firm answers. i am sorry for the complaining and this post will probably not help anyone but i was hoping you guys could give me some advice and support. Was such an awful couple of days, and feel like it wasn't even worth it :(

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
Bright red blood usually means left side colon bleeding, but if there is lots of blood coming from higher up and moving really fast it may be still bright when you pass it. It is possible you also have crohns. Or an ulcer.
I am not sure what kind of pains you are having post-procedure but I wouldn't wish the pain on you that I have. I have ulcerative colitis, but on top of that I unfortunately have c.diff which has been recurrent since January of this year, despite all kinds of treatment including the so-called best "Dificid".
As a result of this, I'm unable to receive Remicade, which I believe will work to ease my colitis symptoms, but I've never really been given a chance at that so right now I am just stuck in agonizing pain pretty much 24/7, controlled by 15 mg of oxycodone tablets :(
I wish you the best in discovering what is causing your bleeding, that is a very scary thing to go through.
When you see your doctor for a follow up mention to him how you were awake during your procedure and ask how that could happen without him noticing..
In June after my colonoscopy I had quite a lot of internal bleeding, which lasted about two weeks and finally just quit. Did they check your blood count to make sure your levels are okay? Don't want to become anemic..
My bleeding was because of the UC and of c diff...
Try to eat very bland foods like mashed potatoes pureed sweet potatoes, white bread, your veggies and fruit should be cooked well and stay away from fatty foods..That might help you...
Feel better soon..
I am hoping though that at least going through all this will yield some answers about this disease and about the polyps he keeps finding. unfortunately, my family live in Zimbabwe, while i study and get my health care in South Africa, so I have greatly appreciated everyone's help and support on this group!
I wonder if your doc would consider a virtual colonoscopy next time. Ask about that. If they find polyps with a virtual colonoscopy, they still end up having to do a regular colonoscopy to remove them, but at least your starting with the least painful procedure first. Here's some info:

I have a prescription for valium (before that xanax), and that helps with relaxation quite a bit. Perhaps you could talk to you your doctor about maybe getting a prescription for this for days when you have pain or AT LEAST give you a pretty hefty dose of valium before having another colonoscopy so perhaps you would be more relaxed at the very least.
I know how sick and tired you get from being sick and tired. There are good and bad doctors and sometimes you need to go to a pain management dr to manage pain and seek a second opinion.
This may not apply to you, but sometimes just letting it go that there are no answers and focus on trying to get better and not worrying will make you feel better. In the past I have become a whole lot sicker trying to get better by taking tests, hospitalizations and through that I got CDiff and an infection.

We have this disease for the rest of our lives and there is no way we can emotionlly maintain a level of hyper vigilance about it long term. The thing that really helps me cope with the twists and turns of my UC is that I stopped getting so upset when it was not under control and started looking at it more objectively, like a problem to be solved. It just helps keep my emotions in check because when I get amped up about, everything literally feels worse. I think too that having a doctor who is really your partner in the disease helps with that too, which can be a hard thing to come by.
I hope you are doing better today!
