Hi Everyone,


Just wondering if anyone has any experience with Imuran. I was prescribed it today and will probably start in the next couple days. I've been flaring for almost a year. I'm 28 and was diagnosed in June of last year. I also take 4 ascol a day and have not responded to prednisone so my doctor thinks this is the next best route to take. I've been reading about the drug and the dreaded side effects, I feel like 50mg is a pretty low dose, hopefully that means less chances of those side effects. If anyone could give me any reviews of their experience it would be greatly appreciated and also any advice with any other supplements I should take such as multi vitamin. Hi I think the dosage may be based on your weight. I take the generic version and have been on it since 2008 or 2009, been in remission since then and I’ve had no side effects to date. It took a couple of months for it to start working. I do recall having a slight sinus type headache all the time for a month or so after starting it but it went away after that.

Like any of these drugs they all don’t work for everyone and sometimes they work for a while. Hope you get some relief!

I haven't had any experience with that drug but just wanted to wish you good luck and hope that the side effects are minimal....hugs

I know this is a somewhat old post, but I wanted to post a reply for this person and anyone else wondering about Imuran.

I take the generic version of Imuran, and I take 100MG a day along with humira. I haven't noticed anything negative about the drug as far as side effects goes, and it does help a little bit. Just make sure to always take it with food, otherwise it'll tear up your stomach.

Since it's an immunosuppressant, be very careful. Stay away from anyone who has even a slight cold and watch out for infections. It has helped my pain a little bit. I really notice it when I haven't taken any for a while (such as when I have a surgery or something).

Also, I suggest staying away from tylenol as Imuran makes your liver work overtime. You'll need monthly blood tests for up to a year, and then it goes down to one ever few months. They are checking up on your liver function.
