I was on Imuran for about 4 months. The worst part is that it takes a couple months to kick in. For me the worst side effects we're that it made my hair thin and somewhat fall out. I was getting sick a lot as well. You become a germ-phobe after a while. Just wash your hands and your daughters hands a lot

I've been on it since 2008. It gave me a headache when I first started taking it but that got better within a couple of months. Otherwise, no side effects to date.

No I can't say I get sick more often since being on it. I think for me, when I do ger sick, it hangs on a little longer and I do notice that I often feel like I'm coming down with something but then nothing really happens. But I definitely am not sick all the time, and I even take public transportation to work which is just asking for a good case of TB.

I have been on Imuran for a little over a year. At first, I felt that it wouldn't work but that is because it doesn't kick in right away. After it finally kicked in, I noticed a difference right away! I have been in remission pretty much since it started working!

Honestly for me, this was my miracle drug. I would rather take a few side effects or be sick a little longer than be shitting my pants everyday. I hope that this works for you and that you can get off the prednisone soon! Let us know how it goes!

thanks everyone! I negotiated down to 15mg/day of prednisone until this stuff kicks in and starts working. I am unwilling to take more than that, and my GI felt it was a safe dose with minimal side effects for now. i wanted off of it all together, and if the imuran works, i will be able to stop the prednisone.

i tend to get sick a lot, with colds, etc, and i guess if i am sick longer, i can live with that. I am a germaphobe already, so, i will just be even more diligent about using hand sanitizer when i am out in the world. I sure hope it works!

Yeah, I get sinus infections all the time. I had four biggies the last 12 months but I can't say Imuran was the culprit. I just am prone to them.

One thing with Imuran is that you'll need to go for regular labs to check your liver function. I go every three months at this point.

Yes, my doc said i would have weekly blood tests, then every second week, then monthly, then 4-6x per year. i'm a little nervous about this drug, but i will do anything to be off prednisone.

Ive been on Imuran for about 3 years for my UC. It does take a few months to kick in But it has worked great for me. Before Imuran I was never able to stay in remission for more than a month, and now Im going on 6 months without a bad flare. I was worried about getting sick more often too since I work in the medical field and am around sick people all day. But I havent noticed a difference.


I Hated pred!!! the side effects for me were horrible! When got off it for the 4th time I told my dr that I would do anything not to go on it again, so she told me about Canasa suppositories they work good and I havent been back on prednisone it about 2 years.

Prednisone is also an immune suppressant, so if you didn't get more sick while on prednisone, hopefully you should be okay. While on both, you might be a little more at risk. If you have not already, a flu shot is a great idea and a pneumonia shot too. I always get a flu shot and I think the pneumonia shot lasts a few years. Colds are tolerable, but the flu knocks you out!

Do anyone have a solution for sinus infections? I am on Imuran and this sinus infection is a painful thing that just won't leave. Please help?

i think antibiotics are the only real solution for a sinus infection. if you wait for it to go away on its own it could take months.
i have had some relief with a neti pot, but it's very temporary. sinus infections hurt, no fun at all.

Yeah if it's not going away, you probably need an antibiotic.
