When you have an autoimmune disease, your immune system doesn't function properly so when your body already has a hard time telling the difference between itself and germs, flu, viruses, etc, it may not be effective defending itself from infections. That's my feeling about it.
I find that my body chooses whether to fight the UC or whatever virus is attacking my system. So when I catch a cold, flu, or get an infection of some kind I end up with a flare and my body will slowly fight the virus. And then once it's gone it goes back to fighting the flare. However, your immune system is already weak and low from that and then you're more susceptible to catching other things too. =(
I also have an ear infection now too, but i declined the offer of antibiotics because that causes way more trouble than a little ear infection causes.
he is running some tests though, to see if there is anything else going on. all this is so frustrating.
I am glad that I read your post because it seemed no one understood what I was saying. I too thought that anxiety and stress helped cause my mom's immune to suppress. She did not have this problem before my brother came to visit in 2010, in fact she just had a medical check up and there was nothing wrong. We experienced something crucial that year, to me it helped my mom's post traumatic stress (she did not have a good childhood, this experience helped bring it back). She is having moods like if she was still there. I remember when I was a kid how I used to hear things about my mom's immune system whenever she was stressed out she will get dizzy, faint, have insomnia, and just go through the same things she is going through now emotionally. She is in her 70s, back in her time they used to call low immune "low resistance". I don't know if you ever heard this word before. Thanks for your post.
