How do they know you have IBS?

My GI base on my history and symptoms. As a child my symptoms and then last year until now. She asked me to follow a low -fodmap diet . I started to make changes but going to adjust fully this week

Do you still have a colonoscopy schedule in December?

Yes, I have the the week of Christmas I think. GI said I have to do it because of the issues

It’s funny. The last time I had a UC flare up, I really thought it was something else because the symptoms were not the typical flare up symptoms. I had no diarrhea but I felt really run down and had a lot of abdominal discomfort. I did have blood in my stool. My GI doc confirmed it was a UC flare with a colonoscopy. We changed my meds, I got an iron infusion and within a couple of months I felt really good again. I just mention that because maybe what you are experiencing is a UC flare up vs IBS. I think it’s good to experiment with diet if you suspect it’s food related but honestly being sick with UC can make you feel horrible and symptoms can manifest in different ways. But too, I also believe it’s not unusual to have more that one GI issue. So sometimes it’s hard to tell what is causing what.

Hopefully your colonoscopy will help solve the issue. Hang in there, try to manage the stress of it all because that can take a toll.

I have the diarrhea and constipation and somethings that I eat triggers it. Plus I have the stomach pain (bad pain) especially when I eat something that triggers it. I had UC for years and never experience this except when I was younger. I does not have blood stool. My former GI stated the same thing that it seems like IBS. I have high dose of medication for awhile now for UC (since this year) but whenever I eat certain things the symptoms returns.
Because of certain things that is why she is checking me for Celica disease also. The colonoscopy she said is not to confirm it but because I need to do one this year. It is stressful because I have a lot of autoimmune base illness and I am in pain and my favor food is making me sick that was not always that way.

Unfortunately if you know something makes you sick you have to stay away from it at least until the meds get things under control. I know it's not easy. I can't seem to handle any ruffage and I miss salad but don't want the pain.
Everyone is different, you have to figure out what bothers you and what doesn't. My sister has IBS and some days it just doesn;t matter what she eats. On a daily basis she has more problems than I do but then I'm on lots of meds for my UC, she just takes Immodium for the IBS.
Be careful what you eat till you get your colonoscopy, hopefully they can give you better answers or switch your meds to somerhin g that works better.

I am that is why my GI asked me to do the Fodmap diet. She gave me instructions on how to. Thanks I will. I already started to adjust to the diet but after i goes to the supermarket on Saturday it will be much better.

I am doing the Low Fodmap diet where I eat from the green list and after four weeks I can eat from the red list one at a time and stop the ones that makes me sick etc
