guy cured himself by not drinking milk

hey everyone,

i was in a taxi the last day and was talking to the driver, i told him i had uc and was taking the year out from university he then told me that he used to suffer but cured himself by stopping drinking milk. he has been free for the last ten years.

oaround ten percent of sufferers only have one flare up. i have been hoping to meet one of these people and i finally have. seems like they recover by omitting certain types of dood from their diet. this guys just stopped drinking milk althought he told me that he ocassionally has milk in tea if in a friends house and that he ocassionally eats cheese and yoghurts and that eggs are ok for him, that it was just milk causing the problem.

i just thought you guys would like to know.

It could be that he was misdiagnosed with UC and really was lactose intolerant. These diaeases (UC & CD) are hard to pin down and are often misdiagnosed.

I was diagnosed for years with Crohns, and UC, But recently found out Im Lactose intollerent. I have whats known as, Sphincter of Oddi dysfuntion, and Osmotic diarreha.(allergic to something Im ingesting) So drs. can be wrong, you really need colonoscopys to differentiate. And have bowel movement studies done. Having the Gallbladder out laproscopicly is what caused the SOD.

I don't think he had UC but as Akie said he was lactose intolerant. There is a easy test 4 that if u think that is your problem.

that sound great but have a feeling that he was misdiagnosed and he is lactose intolarant. It will act like Crohn's (because it is found more in the small intestine) and will cause the same effects.

Ok, I'm guessing this guy was lactose intolerant. I stopped eating and drinking dairy for about three months. I was careful too. I was reading every ingredient and buying special food. When my meds wore off, the UC came back with avenges. After that, I began to rethink the special diets.

I have found a medication that helps me and I am pretty much back to normal now.

There is no cure for IBD. I think there are times when it's in a long term remission and where people are symptom free for years.

I agree this guy may have been lactose intolerant.

he told me that he had a colonscopy. his doctor was friends with the specialist in the hospital so he had it fairly soon.

sugahishtah i think that it is important to be in remission before you start to see if diet makes a difference as the colon will still be frgaile and wont be able to digest as well as certain foods will aggravate it, by causing it to overwork.

I wish it were that simple, I have both crohn'S/UC, it really doesn't matter I have found out what we do to avoid a flare-up, in my case the harder I tried to keep from it made no difference. I had gone for years without certain things and it didn't matter, so as doctors have told me it will come when its time, its a cruel and unkind disease.

I agree this guy just got lucky! I was born with a digestive condition and sent home to die because I just couldn't handle milk nor baby formulars. At home was put on goats milk and had no problems for many years until in my late 20's I had bleeding start. But the point is I didn't drink cows milk ever and only drank goats milk for a couple years. It isn't caused by milk or milk products. Wish it was though.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
