Crohn's disease is a systemic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) of unknown cause, that results in chronic inflammation of the intestinal tract. It can affect the entire gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus, and can also cause complications outside of the gastrointestinal tract. I'm not one for reading and don't do well with research on the computer, never really seem to get anywhere.
It still is an under publicized disease. I am sure there are a few celebrities out there with it that could do wonders if they stepped forward.
But it's a tough disease, and many of us are self conscious and embaressed about it.
The CCFA.org may be helpful too.
I think I would have noticed. I looked it up as you suggested. It listed 11 "celebrities", only 2 of which I ever hear of. One was Sharon Dougherty, who refused to discuss details and the other was Dwight Eisenhower who had surgery to relieve symptoms. that's all it said. I'm sure if I wanted to spend my afternoon scouring the web I might find out more info, but I've got better things to do like go to my all so helpful acupuncture session.
There was no way I could continue living a full and productive life. It IS a debilitating illness, and yes there are those who maybe only have one or two flare's in their life. But seriously, were you wearing a diaper under your wedding gown? And if so, how was the honeymoon?
To me, that would put a damper on what I consider a full and normal life as I once knew it.
I lost my sex life, my full time career, my part time replacement career, my home, my 2nd rental home, my friends, my family relationships, my trust in the medical system, my ability to earn good money and physically take consistent good care of my self. My ability to chose where I live, what I do, and who I do it with. Etc.
So, sure, you can be brave and courageous, but denying that this disease can squash you existing life is BS!
The book does go into diet, but says everyone is different. It seems to me I need to eat like I had ulcers. Bland, no red meat, fish and chicken or chicken and fish Yes, I do cheat on the blandness.
. LOL I remember when I was first diagnosed the Nutritionist told me no fruits with peeling or skins, no seeds, This book says vegetables have to be fork mashable.
No one can "make" anyone feel bad. They can feel bad if someone says something they don't like but otherwise, those are your feelings and so you should own them.
As I explained before, just because I don't go on and on about all the humiliating and awful components of my disease doesn't mean they don't exist. You only know what people go through if they choose to share it with you. I just think you and I are on different paths all together. Not sure why that's a problem. I think commiserating on how awful it all is with each other is like drinking poison. I choose not to do that to myself. S
There's all kinds of information on UC out there and it's not hard to find. Being proactive and learning all I can early in my disease was the best thing I ever did for myself.
