I had a good appointment with the GI doctor this morning. He was really personable and projected a friendliness and an air of confidence. He had looked at my pathology report from my colon resection surgery. He asked about all of my symptoms. He said that having high blood pressure puts me at risk for ischemic colitis. So does my colon resection since the blood supply was altered with having one piece cut one and the remaining ends reattached. He said to try a little restoralax(same as miralax) if I have constipation but to use much less since I am missing a piece of my colon. He mentioned IBS briefly. Then he said he'd like to test me for Celiac Disease and H. Pylori. I could either do a very involved stool collection for H. Pylori and get a blood test for Celiac; or I could get a gastroscopy so he could check both at once. He said he would take biopsies. That I would have the same type of sedation as for the colonoscopy. That they would use a spray to numb my throat. That I have to have an adult with me to wait in the waiting room during the procedure and to take me home afterwards, We would be calling a taxi. I can't eat or drink after 8am the day of my gastroscopy. My boyfriend is the only one who can go with me so he will take an option day off of work. He'll still get paid for that day since he's on salary. The GI said that if the gastroscopy was normal then he would do another colonoscopy. That he's done more colonoscopies than the other doctors I have seen. He made me feel like he would get to the bottom of what's going on with me. He also said that the surgeon shouldn't have prescribed prednisone because that's useless against ischemic colitis. That the ischemic colitis cleared up on it's own. Also to not use senokot that the surgeon recommended because it would cause me more spasms.
