fiber - new to this group

Before I was diagnosed w/UC my doctor had me on fiber supplements. I've been taking them regularly but is this a good idea? From what I've read, fiber supplements cause problems for people w/UC. Is this correct? Thank you for your help.

I take Metamucil caps and it helps firm up my BM's and helps with urgency.

It CAN be a good thing and for some people it can't. The issue with bulking usually deals with narrowings in the intestines and the problems that the digestive tract has in breaking down fiber.

I'd say for extreme severe cases you want to stay away from it, but in general it can help. Also, a lot of "high fiber" foods are harder to break down (raw veggies, grains, etc) and these can cause obstructions.

If you don't have a problem with it, and it seems to help, then stay with it!!!
