I have UC and have a thyroid full of cysts that sometimes cause me sore throats and discomfort when I swallow. They needle biopsied all of them and they all came back benign. Cysts are pretty common on the thyroid. Mine do not appear to impede how my thyroid functions. Every couple of years I have an ultrasound on my thyroid to check for any changes.

I don't know if there' s a link between masses on the thyroid and IBD directly. But folks who have one autoimmune disease may have others. I don't know if you have a thyroid dysfunction, but if your thyroid isn't functioning properly, for example, hyper/hypothyroidism, that may be more about your body having autoimmune issues.

Try not to worry too much. I know it's hard. It's so scarey. But anything with your thyroid, while serious, is often very treatable. Let us know what you find out.

Just to fill you in. I got my results today and the cells from the biopsy came back abnormal but was inconclusive. Doc told me I needed surgery asap to remove my thyroid and they would be able to tell me for sure if its cancer or not after that is done. I will be seeing a surgeon tomorrow because the doctor said it was urgent. I think this may be because it is effecting my breathing and swallowing and very painful. I am hoping its nothing but still in shock at how fast everything is happening with this. thanks for your responses. Hope everything is going well.

That's so scary...the sudden nature of UC/Crohns and other diseases is what gets me. Right now, I'm dealing with a flare that came out of nowhere and landed me in the hospital for 4 days, so I understand that fear all too well. I will be wishing the best for you.

I have found my self in the hospital due to my Crohns far too many times.most which were unexpected as well so I totally understand, thirteen years without remission will do that. Hospitalizations are never fun, I will pray for you in hopes that you feel better soon. i now how exhausting this terrible disease can be.

I'm so sorry. I'd be unnerved by the speed in which things are happening too but then again, this way, they take care of it right away. I'm keeping a good thought for you!
