There are so many different classes of drugs that can help with getting the disease controlled. But it’s also a life long disease and sometimes medications simply stop working. It’s happened to me for sure. So it’s not unusual to change medications.
I think it’s important to keep your doctor updated and discuss what’s best for your health and well being. You could really be hurting your physical health and your mental health by not addressing it.
You are an adult and are in charge of your body and health. So to me I’d contact your doctor. If you don’t drive maybe you can take an Uber or a friend could take you. Or If you feel you want to include your parents perhaps calling your doctor’s office to speak to a nurse for guidance with your parents on the call with you might be a good reality check for them. There are also lots of materials and in formation on line about the disease, medications, etc that your parents might benefit from.
. Listen, I’ve ended up having to have iron transfusions, IV hydration, malnutrition etc because of having ongoing diarrhea. It’s common with active bowel disease but it’s no joke. Take control.

Work with your GI doctor to understand the state of your disease, OP so you know the extent of your inflammation. Most reputable GI doctors’ goals are to help you manage the disease so you can get into remission. That means no active inflammation, no running to the toilet all the time, and otherwise lead a normal life, including eating a normal healthy diet.
I’ve had IBD for a long time. It’s definitely hit or miss sometimes on finding ways to manage during a flare up.
