chest pain

Last night and the night before, while watching tv; and this morning, twice, while still laying in bed I got this awful pain in my chest. It lasted only a second or two and then I felt winded and weak for a minute or so. It felt as if my heart was being electrocuted. Definitely ranked a 10 on the pain scale for those couple seconds. I was wondering if anyone might have any theories what could have caused it?
I have two flimsy theories myself. 1. I have been exercising about a half hour to an hour a day the last week, so maybe just a random muscle spasm? and 2. My vitamin D was increased about a month ago, and I know if your vit. D levels get too high it's toxic [I looked this up online but found no account of heart/chest pain as a symptom of an OD of vit. D]
Seems silly to go to the doctor over 3 incidences that lasted less then a minute total, especially if it is just a muscle cramp. But I need to figure out what's going on. Please help!

Well, I am not an objective person at all because I had pulmonary embolism and so chest pain freaks me out. So, personally, I think you should get it checked out. BUT... It could be anything. I know when I'm really anemic, my chest hurts, and when I'm dehydrated, and get all heart palputation-y. Also, are you in the part of the country with the terrible heat wave? Maybe you're overdoing it with the heat.

Terrible doesn't begin to describe the heat wave we've been having!! But that is why I have been staying inside in the A.C. so I don't think it's the heat.
Chest pain freaks me out too, but I don't want to be an alarmist ya know? If I keep having it over the weekend, I will make myself a doctor appt.

RMB has a point about the heat. I spent a summer tramping around the woods in Georgia wearing a ton of gear during a massive heat wave, and I gotta say... there's a ton to worry about with heat, including AC. AC dries out the air as part of its function, so even being inside and cool, you're still drying out... I've seen guys drop like flies as heat casualties and the ranges of symptoms are huge. So whether or not that's the case, you should be drinking like crazy. We were drinking 8-12 quarts a day and replacing electrolytes with Powerade. I know I probably sound a little too serious with it, but proper hydration can minimize symptoms of just about anything. It's the most important thing your body can use to do its thing.

Beyond hydration, chest pain can be very bad or normal. It's also a GI symptom. I was having my heart checked for other reasons and I mentioned the chest pain. They were able to tell me it was upper GI cramping. Felt like a vice inside my chest. If you're alarmed, get it checked. If you want to wait and see if it keeps happening, I couldn't blame ya.

Don't mess around with chest pain. I had chest pain and thought it was indigestion and I was in the middle of a heart attack and ended up with a stent in my heart. . Women's heart attacks can be so different from the usual symptoms so if you do not feel well please head for the nearest hospital or call 911. It could save you life.

I agree with all above. The vitamin D being up concerns me. I was put on 50,000 IU's a week of Vit D. Come to find out the test was wrong and I was not even deficient. I don't think that would cause the chest pains though. I have had the short chest pains and they have never found the cause. I also found out that my blood pressure drops below 80/40 while I am sleeping at night, so not gonna give up on answers. If the pain persists I would definitely get it checked out. I always take an antacid and see if that helps the pain, sometimes it does and lets me know when it is my IBD or not. Good luck :)

The chest pain could be nothing. But why worry about it? Go to the Doctor! If it is nothing, then you know and it is all ok. If it is something else, then the sooner you get to the Doctor the sooner it can be fixed. It might just be a medicine issue, which is an easy fix, but you need to talk with your Doctor about that.

Take care of yourself and go talk to your Doctor.

Thankx for the advice guys! I went ahead and lowered my vitamin D a little and been drinking extra water just in case there is a chance it's heat related. So far no more problems. =)

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
