Confession time: Even after more than 20 years with this cantankerous gut of mine I still occasionally abuse it. Not meaning too and with sincere intentions, I am an abuser. (sigh)
Last week I had a meeting with a volunteer group. We take nibbles as refreshments. Being in a hurry I just stopped at the local grocery store bakery dept. and picked up a couple of small containers of fudge. I thought most of it would be eaten and I would just get a piece of each, chocolate and peanut butter. As it turned out few attended and my fudge mostly went home with me. Whooops! Bad decision.
Over the next few days it seemed like my hand went out of it's own accord every time I opened that refrigerator door and snagged a piece of chocolate. I kept saying "It's just one small piece." And the pieces were only about an inch square making each individual one seem totally innocent. HA! About as innocent as a politician. I ate about a half a pound over three days in this innocent, unthinking way.
Oh, yeah. You know what happened next. I became constipated and puffy. Meanwhile my daughter ends up in the hospital to have her baby. And no it was not an easy delivery. She went in on Tuesday to have her labor started, but with several other babies coming in they did not get started until Wednesday. Of course she had a difficult time of it and did not deliver until a c-section on Thursday afternoon.
AND me constipated during all this time. I could not deal with me because I was bouncing back and forth between the hospital and home. In utter misery.
Finally on Friday afternoon things became settled enough for me to deal with my problem. Enema did not work. Taco salad for supper. Fiber pills at bedtime. No relief on Saturday morning. I was ready for the emergency room. I was afraid I was impacted. However someone said to try a glycerin suppository. So I did.
OHH SWEET RELIEF! Of course now I am going frequently but I can run easier than I can live with the horrid hemorrhoid buddies that have come back to attention from the issue. I am now staying within reach of my bathroom but that is a small price to pay. On the plus side I got out a family reunion that I wasn't sure I wanted to attend, but I am not sure it was worth it.
This tale of woe is told to assure others that even those of us who have lived with c.d. for many years occasionally make a bad judgment call and give in to the brains urging that just a little one won't hurt.
Chocolate is like an old lover, if it betrayed you once, it will do it again!

I know that sounds so dramatic but it is how I felt. It...
