Yes you can, though it might be difficult. You will need to apply and expect to be denied. Then you get a lawyer and make a second request. You will probably be denied then too. Then you and your lawyer will go infront of a judge for the third time and hopefully be approved. Be sure to have good documentation of your illness with you Doctor(s). Also track your symptoms etc in a calendar book.

Also you will probably have to be off work for at least a year proving that you can not work. For this I suggest getting a Doctor to put you on temporary state disability.

The first things to do are to look into the temp. disability and to talk to a lawyer that deals with SSD.

i got ssi it's quicker and you get medicad which pays all the medical usually. i have crohns and had to stop working

You have no choice, if you apply for ssi, they automatically check to see if you have enough work credit's for SSD, if you do, u go that route. No choice, If you don't have alot of work history, was a home maker most of ur days..example or whatever reason, SSI is for people with lack of work history and / or lack of enough work history measured by work credit'e when getting ssd, you have 2 wait 1 year afterward's to be eligable for Medicare, which you oay for, SSI, you get automatic insurance coverage, but your cash you receive is no where enough to live on, unless your in state funded housing hud section 8 housing as St. Program, ect...the SSD amount you receive can be anywhere from $750- $5,000. Depends on what you paid nto s.s how much money you made, how good of a job you had ect..ssi, is for people whom never worked, or only worked a lil, they receive between 450 use - 700 use per month, depends n hat state you live in, & Chrin's by itself is not gonna be. Approved for ssi, & I find it hard to believe that ssd would pay for chrin's..they have a pre-determiantion list criteria, that automatically qualify's you, the. They have a secondary list, that depends on indiv. & along w/ other issue's.usually you better have both mental & physical disabilities to qualify, as in these medical frontier day's, everybody's on medication for something or other.. having cancer doesn't even automatically make u eligible for disability, I was approved for disability n 2 week's because, I had at the time cancer, plus on a lkver transplant list alng with heat health issue's, multiple medical illness's & nt expected t love last 3- 6 months... good luck..& trust me, I would rather be working & using the restroom alot, then havn m life, bed-ridden, trying to make it to the bathroom, n time, & weakness & trying t fight cancer & organ rejection after losing m hme, care & income & savings because of medical ill's you really don't wan disability....work, if you can try & talk to ur boss & work as much as poss. From home..work work as long as possible, I would work double shifts ina factory of hard labour than being sick & dying lke,e this..

I'm not trying to be rde I sure hope u have not take it that way, but there have been people with cancer, & they have to go t work or die, my friend has to wear a wig, she has half a skull literly, & they won't give her disability, embarressment isn'r t a good enough reason sweetie, I'm sorry, I'm embarred everyday of my life even around family & Med. Personal...so I understand how u feel. My mother gave up goin to radiation treatments for her cancer cause she wasn't even aware when she moved her bowel's anylnger & she was bed rifpdden & once I got her nto he wheel chair, here was no way to get her out of it n the clinic's restroom to clean her up even if I had the things to BA able t clean her up. We got her home, she never went back..she passed away 3 weeks later. I'm sorry, we al deserve dignity, but he government just doesn't care, I'd ur working try working from home, I have n clue what u do for a living, but do someng, don't give up ur lfe, cause work makes a person feel needed..I long to work, My brain is so far gone, I forget so much, I've tried working from me, I need money bad...don't gve up please don't give up..God bless u & urs, a friend who cares..

I think your response gives this topic it's proper perspective actually. I've worked when I've been sicker than a dog, for years before I was diagnosed and shit myself at work. Applying for federal disability never crossed my mind.

Thanks for all your information and help. I have UC and Pseudotumor Cerebi. I have been on unemployment for more than 1 1/2 years. I need to get back to work but having trouble finding someone to hire a 54 year old. With UC I have had so many accidents at work, it is so embarrassing. My other disease makes it hard to do anything. I just don't know what I will do. My income is my only income. If it take 1 or 2 years to get on disability I will not make it. I will have to work doing something. I am just so confused.

What state do you live in?

If your state has short term disability than apply.

If you live in a state without benifits than you won't qualify.

In order for someone with IBD to qualify for federal disability you have to have some of your intestines removed.

Omg, I also have IIP, wow small world, was just diagnosed bout a month ago..it's horrible, dreadful, I have had head pain for 2 months straight...thought it was a Brian tumor, but it is without the tumor..lol not funny, but I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from, oh my if you also have that w/ ut UC, then you prob. Have scores of other conditions...u just may be able to qualify for some kind of disability like someone else said, depends on ur state ect..Google Google Google....as much as poss. I sure hope you get some answer's asap!!! I have been on SSI for sometime and I have tried to return to work too many times to count. Each time I got sicker. I worked from home last summer in my home office. I actually enjoyed it and did an outstanding job. I am looking for another job from home now but they are not easy to find. I had to do a lot of research to become prepared for working at home, then finding work from home jobs, applying for then, and getting hired, and actually working the job. Lots of work. But Well Worth It.
