No he really won't talk about it other than very general . I have no insurance so haven't been tested for a few years, then I was given a Handicap tag, because I had a problem getting to store from the parking lot.
He has me on advair, oxygen, nebulizer and rescue inhaler. At the health center, they are pretty general ,and I haven 't been able to find medical care I can afford elsewhere. They charge by income My husband makes just a little to much money to qualify for any state or federal help.
No I do not know my FEV ,not even what that is.
A nurse at my church told me about the pursed lips breathing
As for what I do during commrercials is mostly housework, and that usually gets me pretty out of breath
Thanks for interest and I will listen to advise, I know I am not getting the proper care ,But don't seem to have a choice, Untill April of 2011 when I can draw Medicare. Then I will be 65
There is a lot of responsibility that each of us needs to take such as nutrition, exercises and general health care but things beyond my control that can send me to the hospital is when I am going to be looking for my doctor.
I agree that some of the numbers are really not indicative of our true status on a lot of occasions but again, we can't or shouldn't issue a blanket statement that they are of no use.
Yes, I want an oximeter because I am always short of breath so that is not an indication that my oxygenated blood supply is at a questionable level. Above all, I do not want a deprivation of oxygen from the organs that need it. It also gives you your heart rate at the same time and if you are at the stage that a lot of us are, that is good information to have at hand.
I just had a 6mos check by my pulmonologist today and I feel that the information that we exchanged will better equip me to manage my disease.
Better breathing to us all.
Doctor told me to just slow down when I do things and if it takes me all day to do what use to take 1/2 day so what. But it is hard to slow down when I went at a high pace all my life. So it is a conscious effort.
I have a oximeter and when I get short of breath I use it to see what my stats are because sometimes I am able to pursed breath and bring the stats up without resorting to using the oxygen. When your stats are low then the heart rate increases due to working harder to get the needed oxygen.
Exercise is very important as it builds endurance and keeps the muscles surrounding the lungs strong.
