This is not weird but kind of unusual for someone my size. 5 ' 105 lbs at the time.

Hubby and I wanted a summer of doing something out of an office setting and very physically oriented. We purchased a backhoe and a few smaller pcs of machinery and learned how to install septic systems including the lateral fields. This was always out in the country and we could just take a cloth and spread our lunch and no one to tell us when to start again.That is when we figured out the next thing we would do which because of our age would be our last venture into the working world.

Also dug water lines and I regularlly lifted the concrete top to a septic tank by chain attached to the backhoe and placed it on top of the one already in the hole.

Kinda the same business as Steve but ours was all new stuff. Nothing flowing downhill or such.

But after the summer we decided that a regular income was better so we sold the equipment and started a manufacturing company for aircraft interior components. I loved this and was a fantastic way to go into retirement.

Deb, Yes I do have the original Mona Lisa, I also have a couple Renior's and a Van Gogh. I soon will be putting them on EBay LOL LOL -- Take care Bill

Anna, you reminded me of my favorite job. My husband is a land surveyor and owns his own company with one employee - him. Before my COPD got so bad I would go out on the job with him. We live in the SIerra foothills and lots of jobs were in the mountains. We took the quadrunners with us and rode around looking for property corners. Beautiful scenery, lots of fun, with my love. Don't think it gets any better.

I once helped take a double farris wheel down at a local fair. It was interesting we started after the fair ended at mid-night on the last night. The guy supervising the project was drunk and the project was disorganized. After participating in this I never wanted to ride at the local fairs that set up and tear down all the time. I pumped gas, worked at a lumber yard, an animal shelter, a jewerly store, bartender and short order cook. All part time jobs while I was an Air Traffic Controller full time in the great United States Air Force. Guess I've been around the block.

Thanks kaput for this thread - I welcome the break. I worked for one week in a herbarium. Wow! This was at a university and I was to press leaves into a scrapbook to be preserved for eternity. At the same university I worked during the entire summer hand-writing invitations (yes - involved scripting) for the University's president's big fall gala. The shortest job I had was selling magazine subscriptions - one evening only. You follow a script e..g if a man answers ask for the lady of the house which I did. The man who answered said, "My wife is dead." I hung up the phone and walked out. In spite of these stops and starts I pretty much spent my entire working life in a profession I thoroughly enjoyed.
