I pumped my own gas once! Went all over me & I've never done it again. Some things are just not progress in my opinion.

Back when cotton was picked by hand, pickers used long bags to hold the cotton. One summer during high school, I worked in a factory that made those long bags. My job was to fold them.

Working in a factory with no A/C during the summertime in Memphis was without doubt the worst job I've ever had. However, it would have been much worse if I had been a cotton picker.

It's not that my last job was weird, it's just that not too many women did what I was doing 10 years ago and that was driving a dump truck. And I loved it - after about 20 some years of being a waitress it was a marvelous change. Loved working outside - in all kinds of weather. And in the Midwest we have a good variety if that! LOL To this day, I wish I could still work and get my fannie back in a truck.

Whow! Mystery girl and silly putty!! Even the dump truck job and raking leaves. A lot of good jobs here!! My daughter made some silly putty for my grandson, and he loves it. Of course it is probably not like the secret ingredient stuff Dennis did!! : ) I remember as a preteen helping my stepfather pump gas in a little one horse town. As for picking cotton, I can barely remember that, but I remember my mom and others picking it and I sat my lazy fanny on my big sisters sack and she pulled me!! Mom was not happy!! Thankfully this was just to help the neighbors.

Debbie, I like that & have never heard of anything close to that. When I was 21 --(100) yrs ago - before dating services were so plentiful, I worked for a man who owned a dance studio & he decided to pair singles up--- I interviewed the men -- till one scared the he'll out of me!! Lol

My dad owned a lumber yard. I used to dust the stuff he sold for 50 cents an hour. I still love going to small lumber yards and hardware stores. The lumber yard where we live now is also a restaurant.

I also painted faces on stuffed animals.

Fun thread! I've actually had quite a number of jobs and none exactly weird or exotic but a couple that were "different". One was in the dining room of Mt. Rushmore as a "Relish Girl" where I had to visit each table and offer them an array of nibblers.

Another one, my grandkids still get a charge out of was about 10 or 12 years ago when I worked a temp job as a security guard for a bunch of women prisoners...I'm only 5'2" and weighed maybe 120 at the time, and no weapon. I was always glad no one tried to escape. Ha ha!

When I was 19 I had a part time job, painting the stripe on golf balls! :)

One of the strangest jobs I ever had was setting oil on fire in the middle of the ocean. Summer 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico. One of the best jobs was working security backstage at a Rolling Stones concert - 1982. The most educational job I ever had was my main career as a Plumber. I learned - Hot is on the left, Sh*t flows downhill, Payday is Friday and NEVER, NEVER bite your fingernails.

Did a short stint at the local animal shelter feeding and cleaning the cages of possums - nasty looking little creatures. The shelter collects the beady-eyed little guys, when they have 4-5, they move them to another location.

Deb, I have lived such a sheltered life, I haven't had any real weird jobs. The closest I can come is I worked as a Night Security Guard at the National Gallery of Art. -- Bill
