Hi all just need to ask as some of you will probably know the answer but i dont can C.O.P.D turn into cancer its just i,ve seen certain people on here when they,ve been for their xrays are relieved and say great news no cancer so please someone can you tell me can it turn into cancer i,ve been on different sites and it tells me nothing

I don't think COPD can actually turn into cancer, but since many COPDers once smoked, I suspect there might be a strong possibility that they could develop it in addition to COPD. But that said, I've never seen any articles or studies about this.

Haven't researched it but I'd side with Sue... IMO I think you hear us say Thank Heavens its not cancer cause lung cancer is so much more frightening in the long run that we're relieved in ways its "just" copd.

I sometimes wish it WAS cancer since sometimes cancer can be cured and COPD cannot. Now thats scary.

One benefit of having COPD/Empjysema: we get more chest x-rays and have out lungs looked at more regularly than the general population. A nodule was found on my lung 2 years ago. It was small; so it needs to be checked for changes. Smoking, and inhaling toxins may cause cellular changes that turn cancerous. Just like COPD, some get lung cancer even though they have never smoked. Lung cancer caught earlier has a good prognosis. I do not think that having Emphysema means you will get cancer; but I have never studied the medical findings.
In my mind, most diseases are genetically predisposed; or caused by our lifestyles (and/or both). I have the opinion, that long after I am gone; much progress will be made in genetics----
and that will lead to groundbreaking information about various diseases. It would explain why many smokers never get cancer
or COPD. It would explain why those that have never smoked end
up with lung cancer, or COPD. Just my own ideas. I am not a scientist or doctor.

NOT SURE IF COPD AND CANCER HAVE A LINK BUT I NO MY MOTHER HAD COPD SOME 15 YRS AGO, SHE QUIT SMOKING ASAP, NEVER TOUCHED IT AGIAN, 15 YRS LATER, SHES STAGE 4 COPD AND ENDED UP WITH LUNG CANCER ANYWAY,SO RELI , IT CAN BE AS LIL AS THE AIR WE BREATH AS WELL AS IF WE EVER SMOKED, I HAVE NODULES ON MY LUNG STAGE 4 COPD END STAGE EMPHYSEMA, HAD C/T SCAN LAST WK, NOW I GET MY RESULTS THIS WED, SO IT IS WHAT IT IS, IAM NOT GONA WORRY ABOUT IT NOW, B/C IT MAYB NOTHING RIGHT.WHO KNOWS, ONLY THE MAN UPSTAIRS KNOWS THE REAL DEAL.
