2009 and I remember lots of people hooked for years on the
lozengers. Doctors don't seem concerned.
I used the patch way longer...6 months....and tapered it down gradually. My doctor said don't worry about it. But I did manage
to get off at the 6 month point.
My advise would be try....but don't lose it if you can't.

The bad part of being an addict is the cost. These nicotine replacement products cost a lot more than smoking; and some of them are made by the tobacco companies.
I wish everyone the best in giving up nicotine.
Majority of bad press is that it encourages non-smokers to try. I used it the opposite reason, so it was basically deciding that since i cannot stop cold so try this harm / crave reduction method which ended with 0 nic n hope to losel... it's what to do with my hands dilemma eventually....guess i was lucky......either works or does'nt.
Gum chewing constantly generates saliva where bacteria breed and thats why the smell and the taste of salty nic becomes another one of those pleasures of satisfaction.....
Stopping is prob as Gnott suggested....re-treat it as another addiction...how i do not know generally speaking which to try....
But you can do it!!!!!
You've made good progress by quitting the smokes, so give it some time and maybe you'll just get tired of the lozenges soon enough.
I've reconciled myself to the fact I can stay off of cigs if I continue to use the gum but not both. If I just have a few cigs it leads to a flareup but chewing nic gum doesn't. If you really want to give up the gum just chew each piece longer and longer. I've chewed the same piece for 4 hours or more. The best I can do is carrying both nic gum and regurlar gum of the same flavor. Being addicted to nic gum at the 4 Mg level may be bad on your gums and teeth. I have't found the 2 Mg. to be that bad. Good luck!;
While using aids is not as bad as smoking, you are still addicted. I know that what it took for me to quit was so easy compared to the struggle my daily life is due to the damage that I have done to my lungs and my life.
