Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

They told me I have cvid. I don't care that I have it. I just don't like this horrible treatment. I live in NYC and have a demanding job on wall street. No way can I do this treatment. I'm not even that sick!!! Yes I've had pneumonia 3 years ago when I was 27 but I feel like I get sick like every other person. I'm so upset over this and cannot stop crying. How bad are these treatments and don't sugarcoat it...I'm horrible with iv things. I wish I never went to this doctor. I'm too young for this crap. Any chance I can wait 15 years until I start treatment?

Yeah PrincesB and animal I feel much better today, but boy I slept deep when I got home. Yeah along time ago they just put a pump on me with the meds and left me alone, when the pump started beeping I would call the nurse and reset the pump myself. I have all kinds of situations. Sometimes they would get so frustrated that they would just hang in freestyle.

That's great you could do the the treatments how ever you wanted too do them.

In the past I did home IV steroids, benadryl and antibiotics twice daily.
I also carried the regular eppinephrine vial instead of the eppipen.
I would break the vial, draw up the eppi and inject myself when I was having too much trouble with the meds I took.
That's the reason I took steroids before the antibiotic.
I was appearantly reacting to EVERY antibiotic and yet I was very ill.

I liked doing it at home.


There were times that I hooked it to my rear view mirror and did my errands. Sometimes I plugged in my nebulizer into my cig liter so I could do a treatment while I drove.

There was only one problem with the neb in the car.
I was driving through Taco Bell and forgot to remove the mask.
So it sort of scared them.

It was a good laugh later.
