Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group
Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.
My sputum came up with a fungal infection today, and they're starting me on anti-fungals. Anybody dealt with this? I've cultured all kinds of bacteria in the past but this is a first for a culture!! I don't know much about these infections, or what types of things to expect from the medications. I have been super sick lately with fever, headaches, severe fatigue, and a bunch of extra lung junk going on. Is that how it typically presents? Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks.
I am so sorry, I did not mean to scare you with too much info about C-Diff.
Its important to remember that Even though CDiff is out there, IVIG works and that gives us a pretty good Immune system to fight off illnesses like C-Diff
I do not know about fungal infections in the upper respiratory system. All my issues are mostly GI related, but I had tons of fungal infections all over my body constantly. Once I started IVIG the rashes went away.
Again, I am sorry to have worried you and I hope that your thrush goes away. It is awesome that you have the chance to go to the Mayo Clinic. I would really like to hear what some of the best doctors in the world have to say about CVID and the struggles you are having.
