Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group
Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.
I'm on subq and the IgG replacement has not helped my arthritis. The last year or so even my muscles ache when I walk. A couple of weeks ago, I developed pain in my shoulder when I extended it, thought I slept wrong, but unfortunately, I can't lift it and it hurts SO bad I'm on a heating pad every night now :( Back to the doc I go!
Have been on sub Q about 1 month. My bones, joints, shoulders , neck, and even ribs hurt. Chest tightness, and a dry cough. My elbow have been so bad I have to take one arm to lift the other. Report says no RA Body says---somethings sure going on :)
BUT i went through a LOT of rheumo docs before finding one that could handle cvid and auto immune issues...she trained under my hemo doc and immune doc and my immune doc is a rheumo/immune doc so she knows her stuff...the ones i had been to over the yrs had no clue what to do with me...you may have to go through a ton...
also y auto immune symptoms had become so bad quality of life was none so the option to treat me with immune suppressing drugs wasnt done lightly also i am now on a very high dose of ivig 60 g every 3 wks to counter act.....but i am doing much better....even with the latest flare from the stress of loosing my son...my doc got it under control in a day or 2 by changing med doses...
so there is help if it gets out of control and they can dx d treat auto immune even with immune def.....dont give up look for a doc that knows their stuff and can help...i went through my internist and he sent me to who would work with him and someone he trusted...
You might want to see if you need a higher dose as another possibility. It seems to be working for me although it worked gradually.
