Hello all
just an update on my teeth and pain. So I went to the oral surgeon for my front tooth pain. He ordered a cat scan , which was done in office immediately, said I had a large cyst above and behind and going up to sinus on that side. He wasn't sure but thought it could be holding a draining infection. That sometimes these cysts did and sometimes they did not. Sometimes they were harmless
He said tooth was too calcified to do root canal so said we could try a surgery to go in another way to root. I forget the name maybe and apictomty or something. Or. Extraction he said he wasn't even sure he could get to the root so I choose extraction
it was very miserable procedure. I didn't realize he didn't use sedation until after they started. Just nova Caine. Do I was having panic attacks thru the procedure and he was asking me to please stop moving so he could do what he needed to do so re extracted the front tooth and made huge incisions lifting gum to remove the cyst
it's day 3 after surgery. I'm miserable. And the original pain is still there now plus post surgery pain. I'm hoping I didn't go thru this for nothing. And the original pain was nerve pain from something else.
this feels like a nightmare I can't quite wake up from. And my anxiety is way up. He sent me home with Motrin for pain. That was it and this guy didn't take my insurance so it was very expensive we'll all in all its hard to stay positive right now. But I'm trying. I have to

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I believe it was called periapical surgery or something like that where the original root canal was placed too deep in the root causing pain so the oral surgeon had to go in through the gum and trim it off and fill it with a silver filling. The stitches were in the crease of where my lip connects to my gum. I couldn't eat solid food for a few days. That's basicly all I remember of it. If you went through that, especially without being put to sleep then I sypathize with you. It's not a very pleasent experience, for sure.
If I remember correctly, having the stitches removed, several weeks later was a piece of cake. There was no pain when he removed them. I think for you the worst is over, If you are still in severe pain then the surgeon needs to know that. He may increase your dosage of what you are taking now or he may put you on something else. What helped me was 800 miligrams of ibprofen which is the prescription dose.
I'm not suggesting you self medicate but call them and see what he says first....Hopefully you won't have to go through that again.
God Bless
Did you ask them before if they were going to sedate you for the procedure?
My mistake, I did not ask. I have had 2 extractions in the past and one root canal. Going back over 30 years and have always had sedation with different drs, so I just presumed. I will never presume again. I know I can not do just nova Caine in the future. If it was just the extraction I would have done ok. But then. The cyst removal was deep and invasive with a lot of scraping. That’s when I. Lost control
Of the anxiety Day 4 of healing and so much swelling still. I really hope I just heal and don’t need any more work with him
Yet, you took care of what needed to be done and now you are taking care of yourself. I am thinking this shows your true inner strength and courage. Something to praise yourself for.
You may also be reliving the experience in your mind with the pain, which is kinda natural. I am going to suggest you do some mindfulness youtubes or listen to soft music or go for a walk, read a book or listen to an audiobook, just to get your mind off the pain and swelling. You have endured a lot of mouth pain for a long time and now you have this healing pain. But you are entering the finish line, and I surround you with light and healing.
~~~Peace~~~
I Really feel for you. I would rather go through completely natural childbirth of a 10 lb baby again than have dental work done.
The dentist I went to when I was a young child. did not care how much pain his patients experienced. My anxiety about dental work is very bad It is so bad that my dentist prescribed 10 mg of valium before my appointments.
It’s from taking ibuprofen for years for headaches it wrecked my stomach
This experience has definitely increased my fear of dental work
I’m at 3 weeks since oral surgery for front tooth extraction and large cyst that was above front tooth and up against sinuses removed. I’m frustrated!!! There is still swelling where the cyst was and it’s aggravating a nerve that rinds along the side of my nose. I don’t like this feeling of everyday not knowing if I’m ok or things are healing. It’s stressful and painful. I saw the oral surgeon a week ago for stiches to be removed. He said it could be a month before I’m out of pain. I really don’t like him. I’m trying to be patient but I’m honestly scared I just want the pain to go away. All I can do is put heat on that side of my face and I could take ibuprofen but my stomach is now also in pain from the ibuprofen and antibiotics I was on. He had me on clindamyacin and I had to stop it early due to stomach pains. I will look into those nerve pain medications u mentioned if this pain continues.
I need to go back and make sure healing is going the right direction. I can’t be sure. It’s been four a half weeks and still it’s very tender and sore and some swelling where the cyst was. Also still a small hole where extraction was. What is bechets syndrome?? I am anxious to even go back to this oral surgeon. I have so much anxiety about seeing him again. But I really don’t know what to expect at this time with the healing. He said it was a major surgery and not to compare myself to what I read online. But still I don’t have any idea!! So I need to go back. I totally understand the avoidance !!
I’m at 5 weeks post surgery. Healing very slowly. Some things seem better and some do not. The area directly under my nose is where the cyst was. It’s very sore and tender. I think maybe worse than it was ?! The extraction site is ok ish. Still a small hole that’s not closed. Still having pain going up the side of my nose on the cyst and extraction side. But not as severe
Yes I need to go back. I have too many questions. I don’t even know how I should be feeling at this point. Or what’s normal. I know there should be improvements. But I don’t know how long the cyst area should be hurting. I’m also waking up with my upper lip swollen every morning from fluid. Just so tired of it all. And it’s affecting my ability to speak clearly. I haven’t been able to put in the fake tooth flipper. As it’s still too much pain. So I’m going to work
Up my courage and call his office
