Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
In the case of the pain scale I do judge those who exaggerate. I judge them to be attention seeking and dangerous to all patients. I think I explained before my belief that when some people mis-use this tool it impacts all of us. So these people are hurting me.
That is why I started that post about pain scales and the importance of using it correctly. See to me judging is normal...it's what you do after you make a judgement that matters. I tried to explain my feelings and offer help.
Don't you think? I go back to what my old dentist said he could tell when someone got in his chair if they were truly in pain.
I'm sure he's had his share of drug seekers.
I'm no doctor but I can look at someone & know they are suffering.
I realize doctors lack training in pain but come on if one is at a "10" is sure would show.
I'm I the only one who feels this way?
Heck even the vitals would be off.
Makes sense.
As far as attacking, I don't feel this is the place or time. I would never do so intentionally. I may challenge someone but I'd never hurt anyone on purpose. Just so you all know in the future. Sorry off topic a bit. I see this popping up every now & then & thought I'd just say my piece.

1 Pain is very mild, barely noticeable. Most of the time you don't think about it.
2 Minor pain. Annoying and may have occasional stronger twinges.
3 Pain is noticeable and distracting, however, you can get used to it and adapt.
Moderate pain - Interferes significantly with daily living activities.
4 - If you are deeply involved in an activity, it can be ignored for a period of time, but is still distracting.
So no matter what the number is you can sort of take that part out it does go by what and how the pain is affected to you and the numbers would be the same if you labeled it A, B,C
So if I could not do a activity and I can ignore for a little bit but not long it could be a D it does not have to be a 4. I know some get hung up on the numbers like if it higher the doctor would respond more but if we are accurate on how the pain effects us we can get treated better.
Thanks for bringing up this topic. I, personally, think its been a good post.
My Hubby, who has a very rare muscle disease(Tubular Aggregate Myopathy) during the early phase of our journey to find out what was wrong, was so stoic about his pain that he made the journey much longer. (ooo, that was a long sentence huh:>} I, on the other hand, am very verbal. Part of that is just a difference in communication styles and skills, part was his "country boy" outlook on life. As we make this difficult journey, most of us become more skilled in communication.
When it comes to posts here on DS, I think we run into the same thing. We're from different parts of the country, different countries even. We each have different life experiences and perspectives to offer ea. other. Its only natural that, at times, we may not all communicate as smoothly as we'd like, I try to keep that in mind and remember that I never really know what "voice" a poster my intend to project. Maybe I have rose colored glasses but it helps me stay calm so I'll keep them LOL
May ea. one of us find the "voice" we need to express what's in our hearts.
Hugs are on me today. LOL
On my bad days where I feel I'm on the verge of tears & can't stay up for long enough to accomplish anything I rate that my 7s. That is usually when i'm do for injections or need the help of steroids to get the inflammation down. No shower, no nothing on those days.
It can be hard to determine what they are looking for with the numbers, description on the charts would help with patients to determine what number best fits their level of pain.
I don't like that my PM wants to know my level for that day,
Just my opinion of course.
