This has been such a rotten day...here I go again. I never found a moment where my pain was managed.
After barely making it through a busy morning of hairdressing, I was counting on the pain to subside...just a little...before driving to my appt. with my shrink this afternoon. The pain just kept increasing so I got the smart idea that I would not only take the Oxy as scheduled, but would throw in a 300mg. Neurontin earlier than I usually do.
It all hit when I was in his office. I was dizzy, a little sickish and definitely shouldn't have driven home. Of course, I did drive and it was a little scary. I won't do that again, but if my doc won't get my meds to a therapeutic level...well, I'm not going to continue to live like this.
This is a busy week and I could cry just thinking about trying to work in the morning. I was told that I should be making plans for what I'll do when I absolutely can't work instead of waiting until it happens suddenly.
I'm in such bad shape that I can't even think....

It's still not managing my pain.
On top of that, because I have nerve pain, I take a tricyclic antidepressant, an anti-seizure med, Tramadol and Doloxene for breakthrough pain. Please be aware that most meds require an initial period for your body to adjust to having the drug in your system.
A med like Neurontin should be started at a low dose and then slowly increased up to an effective dose... but you said you took it once and decided from that one tablet that you could not tolerate it and therefore only take it at night. I doubt if it would be helping you at all taking it that way... and while it may have seemed to have too much negative side-effects initially, they quite likely would have disappeared after the first few weeks.
The biggest error most people make when trying to find meds to give adequate pain control, is to not give it enough time to see if their body will adjust. Most people find they don't feel any effects after the first few weeks, aside from a decrease in pain.
I suggest asking your doctor if you could start it at a lower dose and slowly increase it... and once you have done that if it isn't effective in decreasing your pain then you need to try another drug but following the same process. I also suggest asking your doc if there is a reason why the oxycodone can't be increased, seeing as it is not giving you any relief on that dose. (and I suggest saying it that way, rather than just saying you need a higher dose).
Don't give up on the idea of working yet. Wait and see what happens when you are adequately medicated.
