Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

So I was thinking on Sunday, yeah it was almost a week ago, but I have been busy. hehehe good place to end a post right. I was thinking last Sunday...
Anyway, we were at a friend's apt for the day (we being me, hubby, and my Service Dog Misha). We were there to socialize (tabletop RPG), and I stole the time of our host to help me finish the last dress for the wedding. I helped some, though she did 90% of the work. It was still enough physical exertion that Misha went from snuggling all the new people in the living room to laying on my feet - her 100lb subtle way of telling me I am passing my ability to process pain and need to stop NOW.
My friend, easily reading the alert from my dog, sent me away to go sit in the living room. This actually turned out to be worse as the couch was soft and had no support for my back. An hour later Misha was IN my lap - crap.
I got help standing up and found my hands badly shaking. My friend stopped my aimless wandering to find out what I was looking for - which were my pain meds in my purse. She got my hydrocodine and clonzepam and had to hold the drink to my mouth I was shaking so bad. Misha paced at my feet, very unhappy about the situation. Hubby on the couch was not too happy either and wanted me to sit down in the offered dining room chair.
I couldn't sit. I was in so much pain that it felt like every nerve in my body was firing. Though the hydrocodine kicked in about 15 minutes later, it was not until the clonzepam kicked in an hour later that the whole body tremors stopped.
This shaking is not something I am used to at all. It only started a few months ago - when a PM Dr took me off a barbiturate muscle relaxant (can't remember the name of it anymore) cold turkey. I shook for a month strait when I was taken off it, but now my hands shake 90% of the time. I get whole body shakes if I let my pain or stress get too high.
I don't know if this is still a response from the cold turkey, or something new. I have a panic disorder and I find that my panic attacks now present as seizures rather then me simply collapsing.
Is this just me? Anyone else shake from too much pain?

(oh and I will be off line tomorrow - wish me luck on my presentation on orcas)

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

Dont know about shakes. Friend of mine has a tremor like parkensons as side effect of meds he takes.
I hate the shaking. It really increases my pain. Sorry this is happening.
Many causes of shaking. It is a side effect of different medications. If you have been off the medication for 6 months it should be out of your system; however sometimes the shakes can stay. Panic attacks can cause tremors. Some families have hereditary conditions such as "Essential Tremors" that also cause tremors.
You need to talk to your doctor about the tremors. Mine came with other symptoms and have turned out to be Parkinson. They increase with pain, with exercise, and with too much movement. With or without Parkinson, that can happen to some chronic pain patients.
If you are having movement issues, have a neurologist who specializes in "movement disorders" evaluate you. The delay in getting treatment for me was having a primary who was not familiar with Parkinsons enough and a neurologist who also was not familiar enough. Both threw their hands up not knowing what was happening. Today illnesses are becoming so specialized that it is crazy.
I hope they find answers for you soon.

Oh yes,I shake from pain as well-how much shaking shows how much pain I'm in!
Good luck on your presentation!
I hope things get better for you!
As you know, i was recently dx with Graves and i be had the tremors for at least a month prior to that. I also attributed it to pain, anxiety, etc.
Maybe it would be good to get it checked out..
Hope you will be feeling better soon!
12 days and I am done with school.
LOL as for my whale of a presentation, yeah, I copied the wrong file onto my thumb drive so I did not have my Power Point with me. The instructor gave me the option of giving it another day, but I drove three hours out to give it, I was not going to let a lack of a PP stop me. Which actually turned out to be a good thing.
Quick background, my degree is in environmental science and so I was giving this 10 minute persuasive presentation to a group of like minded tree huggers. My 15 minute talk based on research of if the documentary "Blackfish" was true or false had four of the softer girls in tears and the teacher shaking him head in disgust. I think having pics of whales in tiny tanks would have subtracted from the presentation.
I was excused from beach combing for marine life today and will get an extra reading assignment instead. Horrible pain that will put me in bed for days vs reading for an hour. Yup, came out on top on that one.
hugs and gratitude to all, have as pain free day as you can!

My husband has been Dx'ed with stage II hypertension so we have a Dr apt tomorrow to get him a Primary Care Dr. We have been taking him to the drug store to check his blood pressure. It seems to me that I need to just invest in a stethoscope and cuff. A zillion years ago I was a Medical Assistant so I know how to take blood pressure - though I am sure I am more than a bit rusty at it.
My daughter also worries about my cardio-vascular as one of my long term symptoms has been shortness of breath (due to broken ribs that muscle spasms re-break) chest pain, and having to actually kneel down during spasms to catch my breath. I will bring it up when my see the PM doc.
I have finally wrapped my mind around chronic pain. I fought the idea tooth and nail, but I have come to terms with it now. Well, at least mostly. I now understand that I can't do my pain meds as needed - because I always need it. This next apt is to start working towards long term pain management.
Once school is done - I pack up the house, cut down what we own, and we are moving to a warmer climate.

My Misha who keeps me alive
So, that being said, while there were some wonderful posts regarding the cause of shakes, I thought I'd give you my experience and suggest maybe you ask your doc about a long-acting med. This long-acting med has been an absolute GODSEND to me. NO peaks and valleys of pain, only 2 pills per day which, for me, is much easier to remember to take than 3-4 times per day. I love what this medication has started to do for me...it has began to give me a little bit of my LIFE back.

Then, to the slightly silly side.... I have lived in the Pacific Northwest for almost 2 decades now. We set the house temp at 64 degrees - year round. On the rare days there is sun, we use the air conditioner in the cars, especially if it gets over 70 degrees!!!
I absolutely MELT if it spikes into the 80s for a few days... and here I am planning to move first to central Cali and then probably to Arizona.... I am doing to DIE from heat.
I want to visit the Pacific Northwest (Oregon)...I was up in Monterrey, CA for Army Reserve training before deployment and it was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. I want to spend more time enjoying it...we are lovers of the outdoors...

I loved the Pacific Northwest when we first moved here - as a avid horsewoman I adore riding in deep conifer forests - right up until we reach an area that has been clear cut. That just breaks the heart.
I have been within feet of Bald Eagles, black bears, elk, spotted owls, and white tailed deer. But I hurt all the time. There are few weeks that a storm front is not moving in or out. As it is just hubby and I now, and he has not worked in two years, the concept of moving is not so hard right now - just the getting through the last 9 days of school
Yadlim one more assignment done and my Misha
BTW I have a cousin in Las Cruces, NM and it was 108 today and supposed to hit 111 tmw. But at least its a dry heat I guess ;-) My nephew at Fort Hood hit 100. In a few weeks here in Ga it'll be pushing 100 with humidity at about 85%. I am so not looking forward to that.
Totally off topic & I apologize!
Take care,
Emerald
Gotta love the weather here last month or two yeah?? Im just outside of Seattle - the days have been INCREDIBLE! Not too hot or cold and BLUE skies - no clouds... I think this summer is going to be a great one with this kind of weather already... :)
( if people only knew- doesn't always rain... ;)
