Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

Not that me screwing up is unusual, but yesterday I really messed myself up!!!
I was standing there and grooming my horse. Scratching and loving on him and when it was time for him to go back to his pasture, I stepped to the side and went to turn around... I planted my foot squarely in a gopher hole and it stuck there. I had enough spin in my movement that there was no recovering from my foot not moving and I felt myself going down as I wrenched my knee. In slow motion I rolled so that I touched the ground and let most of the energy of the fall go into my roll. Luckily my horse just stood there are started at me with a confused look on his face as I was now on the ground leaning against his legs.
My friend and daughter were quick to come to my aid as pain seered down my leg from my wrenched knee. I wanted to just lay on the ground to find out if I was going to be able to breath or not, but my daughter was not about to let me be on the ground with three horses within five feet of me. She helped me up and into a nearby chair before putting my horse and hers away.
It took two rounds of pain meds, taken 45 minutes apart, before I could breath easily and the pain in my knee faded and at that point we headed home.
For the rest of the day I felt fine, though I had a very slight limp, but today I just can't get the pain in my spine under control. I have taken my max amounts of pain killers while still leaving some for before bed. I have stretched, tried to nap, gotten hubby to massage my back, used my TENS unit, used heat and am about to put on a Salonpas patch. I do better with IcyHot patches, but I am out of them.
It has been a couple years since the last time I fell. I remember WHY I go to such extremes to not fall.
I hope everyone else is having a better day!! I have taken today off and just to make sure I will take tomorrow off too. I hate being broken.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

Definitely take it easy. Take care. Will be praying for you.

I'm afraid that I don't have much else original to offer you on the pain control. Can you tolerate hot/warm water, like a spa? Would soaking in one help?
Take good care of yourself and let us know how you're doing!
It is my horse who has kept me going - that and my immediate family. Without them I would be lost. Everything else in life I have given up, especially in these last couple of years.
Next year, next year will be better.
Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill!!

The reason I was shuffled out of the area so quickly was that there were two other horses also standing there - ones who might accidentally step on me.
Yesterday was horrible. Today so far has been ok. It is not a good pain day, but I am able to keep my pain in check enough to at least be up and moving a little bit. This was only the fourth or fifth time I have fallen since I crushed my spine. It is terrifying as if that if my spine completely gives out where the vertibrea is crushed, I will be dead before anyone can call for help. The T6 has the nerves that control my diaphragm and I will lose the ability to breath. That has been one of the major symptoms when my pain gets high, having trouble taking a deep breath.
But it did not happen. I can breath, even if it hurts. A few days rest and I will be back on my feet again.
Hugs and hope to everyone!

The ribs are getting better. I have not broken them all the way through in years, I just crack them unfortunately quite often. :( They had dropped in pain enough to come off my radar, but after the fall the other day I am pretty sure they are adding to my pain.
Tenacious and not stopping is why I never quite heal right... But it is also what keeps me going no matter what. It is what most people call my having a "great attitude" even as physically I get worse while there is no clinical reasons why I am not getting better.
One step and one check mark at a time. The day after tomorrow I will start packing again. By spring we will be ready to tear down and replace this house and then flip this property... oh I have way too many things on my "honey do list".... isn't it supposed to be my hubby with the list?
I can see you twisting your knee can cause you back pain-and with your past history-it would be worse than the normal :(
Feel better!
Also, how is your daughter going? I hope the migraines have stopped or are happening less often. Has she had anymore seizures? I know you're all going thru a lot with the house, you all deserve a break from illness and extra pain.. take care
Daughter... quick catch up! We moved her down to CA to live with her grandmother. After two months she figured out how good she had life with us, ditched the A-hole boyfriend who was putting so much stress in her life, and after going on tour as an actor for two months, has come home on an extended visit to help us pack out of the house. (We found out my house is a total loss and will be cheaper to tear down and replace then to clean up the black mold). With her help, I have gotten more done in the three weeks than I got done in the four months she was gone.
She is still having migraines, but is doing ok on OTC meds. The big seizures left with ex-boyfriend. She still has small ones, but I am of the opinion she is having anxiety attacks as they look almost exactly like my panic attacks.
For the first time in almost two years she is happy with who she is, looking forward to the future and finishing her Bachelor's Degree, is helpful, and just a pleasure to be around. I missed her so much!! I finally have her back and am so glad for it!!
