Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
We won't bite. Hugs, Lee
My wife is beginning to understand me, but I'm not sure if she ever really will.
Hang in there.
David.
Second, I'm definitely not new to DS, I've been here 4 years, been in severe pain for 9 years. Oh yeah, and I'm only 24, haha. I've seen many people come and go but the core of this group remains strong. I have been dealing with depression for the first time in my life. I used to help people, which in turn helped me, but with this depression, I've been (so far) unable to help myself so I've had a hard time attempting to help others. I used to respond to many posts but not as of lately. For that, I'm sorry. To me, depression has been a bigger killer than even my pain. At least with my pain I can try things to help but with this depression, I'm so deep in it that I don't know where to start... And meds are not the answer. It is situational depression that must be worked through. But again, I don't know where to start.
What I want all of you to know, whether you're a new or old member, I read everything here, you are being heard by me. I feel for all of you. I've been at this for 9 years and it's still like an open wound. This is an incredible group. Sure, we may have a bad seed once in awhile but the core remains incredibly amazing. And we love to reach out to those reaching out. I assure you that somehow, sometime I will get through this depression and become an active member again.
I must add WELCOME to all the members that have joined since I went MIA. We are always sad you have the need to be here but so happy you found us since this is the best resource out there and we know DS will lift you up just as it has done for us for many years. Kick off your shoes and make yourself at home!
Much love and understanding,
Lisa
And ll long years ~ I don't have any doggie bones, but how about a pigs ear?? My daughters dog loves those. LOL Hugs, Lee
Flick: Are you kidding? Stick my tongue to that stupid pole? That's dumb!
Schwartz: That's 'cause you know it'll stick!
Flick: You're full of it!
Schwartz: Oh yeah?
Flick: Yeah!
Schwartz: Well I double-DOG-dare ya!
Ralphie as Adult: [narrating] NOW it was serious. A double-dog-dare. What else was there but a "triple dare you"? And then, the coup de grace of all dares, the sinister triple-dog-dare.
Schwartz: I TRIPLE-dog-dare ya!
Ralphie as Adult: [narrating] Schwartz created a slight breach of etiquette by skipping the triple dare and going right for the throat!
Yes, if you take meds you should be fine! LOL.
We don't talk about my meds but when I say I cannot drive because I hurt too much there is eye rolling. Really, why can't you drive? I am also telling them that I will not drive if I have recently taken a pain pill. My extra meaningful staring back at the eye roll tends to get the message across.
I cannot drive any long distance, my foot cannot be trusted to beable to put enough pressure on the peddles. If we as a family go on a long trip I know it annoys them that we have to take breaks so I can walk around a bit. We have less issues on this if my son in law is with us because he has a pea sized bladder. How odd that stopping for him repeatedly is okay, stop cause I am in pain and the annoyance can be felt in the air. These are people who love me.
My boyfriend goes in the opposite direction. He is constantly asking if I have taken my meds and if it was up to him I would be bed ridden. Neither of these scenarios is ideal.
I'm glad to have you guys to get me through when the people that love me don't want to hear it. Hugs, Barbara
As far as family and significan others understanding our pain.... I am single and my dog Malcolm aproves of my medications, he loves when I take him for an extra long walk. My other family members do approve of my meds and understand my condition (thank God!), but if they didn't, I will just do what I needed to do anyways, no one knows the pain that we go through day in and day out, and I am the kind of person that I do what I need to do without caring what others think. If your family is not accepting your meds or condition, don't get too bend out of shape, because when it comes to chronic pain; no one can understand it unless they have been through it in their lifetime.
Hugs to all,
Nice to see you!
David.
Now I have a new family doctor who seems very compassionate and understanding so far. AND I have the best PT around... he provides me with so much information and validation of my pain - going to PT is like going to a therapy session. I just wish all the support from everyone could ease my physical pain - but it does ease my mental discomfort when I'm not too far down. Unfortunately when the pain really takes hold no amount of emotional support can bring me out of the depression. But I keep pushing on, what else can I do.
