Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
Long story short, I had to endure withdrawl and I was quite angry but realized that I had become a wiser, more careful patient. Boy, talk about learning the hard way, that was it! lol
when my pain doctor goes on holidays she makes sure everyone has their meds.
i'm sorry you had to write this, some doctors need a reminder that they are doctors and should follow what works for the patient.
What a lot of us forget, and what these Doctor's forget, is that they work for US, not the other way around! They eat because of us, they drive a Mercedes because of us, they belong to the Country club because of us, and we have the right to fired them at any time! So good for you!
I am glad that you found a new Doc, and that your new Doc is taking care of you. God Bless,
"What a lot of us forget, and what these Doctor's forget, is that they work for US, not the other way around!"
Fire the doc who would try to do this. There are compassionate and caring doctors out there!
I was very upset last night when I couldnt get my medicine.
I think it would be great if we all had our Dr.'s phone numbers like they have ours.
You guys are awsome , like always
Vicki
Since the doc was a "stand in" and not your actual doc, I do not think this is necessary or helpful. You are on notice that you have to see your real doc and no one else. I worry that if this substitute doc and your doc are friendly, and they obviously are if one is standing in for the other, that your actual doc will get a load of your threatened vindictiveness and cut you off completely. That will help you... how? Your current doc IS helping you, right? So all that was lost was this one visit with the sub.
Tipper is right that we are the boss, and the doc, the employee. If your actual doc wasn't helping you I would say "fire him!" But since that is not the case, I think you are "cutting off your nose to spite your face." You will be out on the street looking again, and it is hard to find help when the disease is chronic pain, as you rightly pointed out.
I hope this works out for you, but I feel like another lesson is coming down the pike...
I disagree.
I think it was more than nessasary and helpful.
This Sub Dr. was chosen by default. He just happened to be the Dr. on call that day.
This Dr. on my very first visit to him wrote in my chart that I was making up all my symptoms. Even thought I have tons of MRI's , X-Ray's etc. from years of dealing with my chronic pain.
He said I didnt need medicine because I didnt have anything like cancer pain.
To all of you that have pain " NOT" related to cancer,Im sure you will agree that your pain is just as valid.
So, I have a history with this Dr. of putting things into my chart that can never be erased. And I have a history with this Dr.s lack of compassion.
Im not gonna take it anymore.
I am not only making a stand for me. Im making a stand for everyone who was and ever will be treated like this.
Chronic pain has to be taken more seriously by the medical community.
There may be a price to pay, but I guess I am willing at this point in my life to pay it.
I will no longer sit still and be treated like a druggie or a crazy person.
I will demand respect and compassion and in the end maybe YOU will benefit from it.
Your welcome
Well, I hope it works out for you and I can relate. I have had similar experiences with docs putting untrue, even dangerous things in my chart. I have experienced firsthand the lack of compassion. It's no fun, is it? Sadly, there are docs that only Rx opioids for cancer and I agree that is morally wrong and our pain is just as valid. I agree that chronic pain needs to be taken more seriously by the medical community. I volunteer, I have donated thousands of dollars of my personal money, met with decision makers including Pres Obama and my senators and congresswoman in DC, and raised additional funds toward that end. I also have large ear-marks for pain advocacy in my will. (YOU are welcome!) I hope that your choice does benefit you and me. I know you are raw about this, and I don't blame you. I was just playing devil's advocate and pointing out the collateral damage that could befall you. I never said it was right. I hope you find the help that you need. NO ONE should have to live in pain! Yes, that substitute doc was an @ss. I wish docs were as afraid for being sued for under-medicating as over-medicating.
I got a responce from my HMO. They wanna know more about my dealings with this Dr.
They are sending me a form to fill out.
I have know idea if it will help or not, but I sure hope so.
Thank you for your work helping chronic pain patients. It sounds like you have been able to get a lot done.
I just wish change would come a lot faster for us.
Yes, you are right. I am raw. I am dealing with my pain and emotional issues as well. Faceing homelessness and been denied SSD for 7 years.
My daughter almost killed herself last spring because her father molested her. That is how we became to be almost homeless.
Its been a very hard year and it just seems to keep getting worse.
I just keep on hanging on like the rest of us.
