This is why if you regimen includes NSAIDS for those of us who have to take them our Pdocs try to rely on NSRI (Non-Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) Anti-depressants. There are many different types of anti-depressants that work with Serotonin in different ways. I'm a Bipolar patient with a Degenerative Cartilage Disease, Cluster Migraines, Osteoporosis and MS. I have to take large amounts of NSAIDS. I also have to take Anti-depressants daily as my Bipolar is classified as Severe Suicidal Depression....

There are generally ways to make the meds work together.

Why isn't this broadcast everywhere like the imagined serious dangers of Opiates????
Let's start a "War on NSAID's" and make everyone sign a contract to get those Advil in the pharmacy and only be allowed a months' at a time.

I have been taking Klonopin, have slowly weaned off the tramadol and baclofen. I have been taking ibuprofen for my pain til I can get to my pain management doctor. Is this bad? Tylenol doesnt help well neither does the ibuprofen. So Is it bad to mix the ibuprofen with the Klonopin then? Didn't want to take tylenol because of messing up my liver. Have been on and off these medications for years haven't had very good luck with pain management doctors. Angela

There is nothing wrong with taking ibprofen but if you have a problem with depression that medication doesn't seem to help then you might want to talk about this with your doctor, is all I am saying. My doctor wasn't even aware of this until I told her what I read in arthritus magazine while waiting to see her.

All medication, even otc ones have side affects, most of which we know about by now. I have been taking nsaids for years myself and will continue to do so. I can't take narcotics because....um....I like them too much.

For some of us a large amount of Ibuprofen is just as important as our Morphine, Oxycodone and Flexerill. Without the 1600 mgs of Ibuprofen a day that I take, I wouldn't be able to walk because the inflammation in my joints would be too bad, and the pain insane. The Ibuprofen has never affected my BiPolar meds or stability.

Sunny - I've never had an Ortho Surgeon or PCP push NSAIDS on me. And what did you mean by, "Why isn't this broadcast everywhere like the imagined serious dangers of Opiates????" Opiates/Narcotics have serious side effects for many people, they're not imagined.

Again... very interesting... I have never heard of this and I can;t wait to look it up... thanks... you just never now what you will learn some days... :) I take A LOT of Ibuprofen and I take anti d's ...

Kat- I know what you mean... if I didn't have Ibuprofen for pain... I would have a very very rough time walking etc. ( well so many things) I would have never expected that some day it would HURT just to take a shower. ;( I don't think people believe that sometimes... ( well those that DON'T have CP)

what I understand or took from Sunny's comment and I've had it happen to me MANY TIMES with the newer crack down on opiates NSAIDS are being pushed from doctor rooms to ERs... even if you have GI issues they will still push NSAID's and just tell you to eat with them ect, that's not always sound advise either as some with GI issues with have more issues on top of issues with food being taken at the same time... as a doctors desire to treat pain due to new laws ect is making harder and harder for those who live in area's where its just flat out a issue to get pain meds.

in order to get some cold meds due to Meth you have to sign a state log ... I believe that is what sunny is talking about ....maybe one day it will come to that I know I've had GI issues due to taking NSAID's for pain, the guy in the next build almost bleed out and was in the hospital for almost a week ...people who can't get the pain meds they try their best to control the pain with what's left and its hurting people in almost common place way sadly
