So, since I've had an increase in pain over the last couple of months (sacroiliac joint, myofascial, etc.), I decided to try some painkillers. Over the past month I've tried Tramadol, Lortab, and Percocet....no reaction. Well, actually, the first time I tried a percocet, it did seem to help a bit, but by the second time I took it...absolutely nothing. I don't use street drugs, have one or two glasses of wine a week, and am very small, so I was actually expecting these drugs to be very powerful and was scared to take them at first. Anyone else like this? What do I do? Try dilaudid? The only thing that works a little is a glass of wine!
I dont think you understand. I'm not talking about a lethal dose. Two entirely different things. I am talking about what is called a ceiling dose. Thats is reaching the very top of the amount you can take of a medication without it being lethal. It is different than someone taking Tylenol...( very dangerous- especially for the liver)
* lethal dose of Tylenol approx... 4,000 mgs-- very easily acheived in a short amount of time. Possibly even in a day...
* tolerance happens over a long period of time with an opioid type of medication. A body will become accustomed to the small increases and if prescribed properly, there will be no ceiling(in the future) as to how much can be taken -- if needed.
Ceiling dose is different, however, as the dose gets higher the discrepancy between dose and lethality becomes thinner...and more dangerous.
She wasn't trying to get high. Only trying to kill the pain. She died a young woman. Careful of CNS depression meds. Mixing can be fatal.
I am so sorry for your mom's death, it is sad when Doctor's under-medicate and then the patient goes and do whatever they have to do to kill the pain. Maybe if your mother's pain was controlled, she would be with you today....... Sending big hugs, and again I am so very sorry.
