Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
I know for me my meds is just one in many tools that I do to manage my pain and without one of them all of them are not effective. I dont expect and I am sure you dont either that a vicoden would take care of a OXY pain so under medicated might be a problem. But that opens up so more problems because our pain meds have to match the DX so we cant take OXY super strength for a hurt back with a slight herniated disk or fibro it is just to strong for that type of injury.
I think if you take meds take them and know they are not going to stop the pain only help control the pain do not put all your eggs in one basket and maybe PT will work OR water aerobics or yoga it might take months if not years to find what works best.
Good luck I know sometimes when there are so many possibilities of why it is just more confusing. Keep it simple
I hope they find out how to help you.
Rhonda
My current doctor doesn't want to prescribe anything else since I'm on such a cocktail of preventatives, but I'm seeing a Migraine specialist in November (I count the days) so hopefully he can help before I jump that bridge.
I hope you are able to get some relief soon.
Knowing this I can see how there are probably people who cannot process all opiates properly also. But without trying something different its hard to say one is opiate resistant. T3's did nothing for me but now I'm on oxycontin and it is working. Maybe you need to try something different.
Hope you find some relief soon. Hugs and peace,
Lisa
I get no relief from certain ones, others totally knock me out, and the method of adminstration matters as well.. IV morphine did nothing after my car accident as did whatever the latest and greatest anti nausea med. They had to give me a shot of morphine IM before I was out of pain (the total dose should have knocked me out - it did NOT!)
I wake on the table during surgery (even the very first one!)
I have to tell anesthesia about these things all the time.
The different sources of my pain seem to aggravating each other. A Reumatologist I used to see told me that the arthritis/stenosis I have in my neck is causing the Fibro to flare horribly. Now I've added the fluid and tendonitis in my shoulder which has caused the same side of my neck to spasm along with it. It hurts so much every day...and I'm still working a little. I have no choice.
I was on increasing doses of Vicodin for a few years as my condition continued to worsen. Morphine attacked my stomach and I couldn't tolerate even a small dose. I tried oxycodone, buit was only 5mg. 4 times a day ad it didn't touch the pain.
Next...50mcg, Duagesic patch which I use now with little difference along with vicodin 10-660. I waited over a week for my script for oxycontin to be accepted by insurance only to find out that it completely shut down my digestive system. It was like everything was paralyzed, I bloated and started vomiting while still in pain.
I can get a brief bit of relief for a very short time with vicodin and the patch until I start working or just moving around too much. It only helps if the pain hasn't started at a high level before I take it.
My doc won't write another script for vicodin until she gets a report from the pain clinic that I went to...once! I called my doc yesterday and never heard back, but there is a script for the patches waiting for me to pick up so I'm going to drive over for that.
I don't really feel like driving a half hour over and back, but I have no choice. I might find that she also wrote a script for the vicodin and they didn't bother to let me know. Guess I'll go find out.
I don't expect to be pain free or even close to it and I use heat, stretching and I WORK. I just want a little more relief than I'm getting which is minimal, at best.
On the road,
Cherry
I'm afraid to go anywhere else without knowing if I'm going to be confident in the doctor. I don't want to jump in, switch my records over and then regret it.
I'm in a pickle, no doubt.
Hugs and thanks for the replies,
Cherry
