I woke up this morning and fell down immediately after trying to get out of bed, god i cant wait to hear what i did to my knee, it has more colors blooming from it than my daughters coloring book.
Still I gritted my teeth and slid downstairs, hopped around on my decent leg until i could get my wife off to work and my kids off to school.
I then proceeded to start my morning ritual, hottest bath i could stand, took my daily breakfast of pills and coffee, put on a fresh testosterone patch and squeezed my knee into my heavy duty brace.
Its has been unseasonably warm for the last several days and i was bound and determined to make it outside, even if it was just to sit on the steps for a bit, turns out the steps were the best thing i could have done today.
As i sat there, wishing i could go for a run like i used to, or at least a stroll around the neighborhood i finally settled for just sitting there with my baby girl on my lap admiring the sunshine.
About a half hour after i went out i had just about decided to limp back inside and a van with tinted windows pulled up and screeched to a stop in front of my house, btw in my neighborhood this could be a very bad thing.
But thankfully it wasn't, earlier I had seen mike, my pastors son drive by and I had waved to him as he drove his kids to school. Mike has a younger sister with a rare disease that has destroyed most of her muscle tissue and left her immobile for the most part. Over the years i have taken her under my wing and helped her every chance i got.
Back to the van "im rambling a bit here", out of the van mike jumps and the back door opens and 3 army clad young men hop out. Mike walks past me into my house grabs my keys, locks my door and throws my keys to me. Your going on a trip he says and the three young men help me to the van with my daughter.
Long story short because my hands are now hurting, mike and his brothers in arms were going for a run and apparently i was going with them.
When they stopped the van they produced mikes sisters wheelchair from the back, helped me into it and strapped my daughter into it with me, these 4 young men then proceeded to go for a ten mile run, each taking turns to switch between running and pushing me.
None of them commented, none of them expressed any sympathy for me, none of them treated me any different, they just pushed....
After it was over they helped me back into the house with my daughter, helped me get settled and one by one they left my house and waved. Mike was the last to leave and as he folded his sisters chair up I said one word....Why?
He glanced up at me for a brief second with a sly smile on his face and told me " you looked like you wanted to take a run".......

The day sounds so much fun almost like out of a short story or something, I am glad you got to experience it. We here in MI are having some really spring like weather and I wish I would of taken advantage more of it.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I have followed your post and enjoyed them greatly . I know that you really struggle and I admire your courage and attitude. You are a wonderful role model for your children. And those fine young men who took you for a run did so because of your character. I know it feels as if they are providing you a service, but Kris that experience will stay in there hearts forever.
During a seminar at a remote lodge with no elevator I had a similar experience. Two young men took it upon themselves without my asking then to carry my wheelchair between floors for the entire weekend. It was an amazing experience.
I am so thrilled that you had this special outting and special day. Those men in uniform are pretty special. My son is in the Army so I think he is Awesome. Hugs, Cathy

I'm glad you and your daughter were able to get out to enjoy this unusual weather.
In that respect I seem to have lucked out once again since her grandpa, my father in law , has recently become disabled but is still very mobile is spending most of his days with us and he's chasing her all over the house for me..... :)
