I think Medical Marijuana is the way to go for some people. It is cheap and you can grow it yourself, from what I hear people who do use it live by it and if it was not associated with illegal drug use but a reputable choice alot more people would have a different view on it for chronic pain.

I live in MI and it is legal here with a medical card. The cards are very easy to get here and that is causing some problems because people are getting them to be able to carry MJ legally and to grow in there house, they do not necessarily have CP. If you pay off a doctor he will sign the papers and it is causing what was positive not so positive now and this is what is going to ruin it for people who need it.

Also even tho it is a state law the cities have different ordinances and that is causing alot of problems some people are still getting arrested even with the card and having to pay tons of money on legal fees and having CP and being put in jail can never be a good thing. I think if they make it legal they should make it legal and not have so many gray areas and they should tighten up who should be allowed to take it.

I've followed Montel and all he's gone through for several years now.
He's tried every pain med in the world showing he gave medications a real try. He has been arrested at least once for possession of marijuana and takes many types of vitamins and meds made for MS too but to treat his physical pain he has used cannabis for a long time now and advocates it's medical benefits.
His MS pain is a lot like the nerve pain I have. I have studied the use for medicinal reasons for a decade even though I live in a state where it's not medically legal.
All we can do is be proactive to get laws passed so that maybe in the future real medical patients can try this vs such strong and dangerous meds.
My personal beliefs are Big Pharma meds are far more dangerous than cannabis. If I could use it, I would want a vaporizer to protect my health; otherwise I see no real dangers

Cannabis is very effective for nausea, slightly effective for spasticity (MS often manifests with this). For pain?? Not a direct effect, but likely via secondary and indirect channels.

I did not get to see the show, but I would have love to! I know that a lot members here swear by MJ, if I was not living in the south/bible belt area, I am sure that it would have been legalize by now, but here in Fla. it will not get legalize, if it does, it will be when hell freezes over, and when the cows start flying! LOL!!

I didn't see the show sadly, it sounds very interesting. NY has a law on the books since the 80's allowing medical us MJ but the law also requires a panel to be set up to regulate the scripts. NY has still not set up the panel so you cannot get a script filled. Sigh.

On Sunday night, there was a 2 hour movie on cannibus, and the uses of it . They stated that although something like 15 states have legalized it, and several more are thinking about it, it is under federal law ILLEGAL, and the federal govt will not support state laws. SO, interpret that as you may, but it is still illegal. There was a big discussion that so many shops and stops for medical maraj. have cropped up they have move than starbucks, and they are on every street corner. In additon, it said that it is highly more effective for pain, when eaten, rather than smoked. It showed new companies, and their products. One makes a marajuana maragine, and then makes candy bars, cookies, lollipops, taffy, and even a microwavable nacho cheese to eat with chips. A friend told somebody the other day that his son works in Colorado on a ranch raisign mj for a pharmac. company to use it for medical mj. I have not tried it, but I live in MO, the hearland of NOTHING, actually. But like all the meds we strive to keep available, this too would, and most certainly is abused for factors other than chronic pain. The movie summed up that they feel it will , in a few years, be like alcohol. Legal, but with laws to support use.

Personally it would be of no use to me, but I think it should be legal for cancer and pain patients. My mother died of bone stem cell cancer and she went through Hell with nausea AND pain. Not that I can imagine my mom smoking a doobie, but if there were ways to take it in pills, it would've made her last months easier. How can strong opiates like morphine be legal with prescription but not an herb like Marijuana? Politics. I've never even smoked a cigarette, let alone a joint but I have a friend who said it saved her during breast cancer treatment. I never even smelled it until a trip to Amsterdam a few years ago and I had to run in the other direction. I outgrew my asthma as a teen but it had the same effect as cigarette smoke to me- it made me run. All I did was SMELL it and I got nauseous. I guess I'm outta luck if I ever needed it medicinally! ;)

ha ha ha ha! go dr. phil and montel! i am of the belief that weed should be legal or at the very least federally decriminalized. i'm sick of tax dollars funding the arrest and imprisonment of illegal drug users entirely, but it would ruin the futures trade of inmates so i don't see it happening.

I just posted the same topic on another support group. It was a pretty heated show. Did anybody notice how reserved most of the time that Montel was. It was alittle concerning for me.

CC have you ever smoked it, it does get rid of pain--oh not that I would know LOL. It has so many things it does help with the nausea of course and it will de-stress you and it will numb you to a certain degree and the pain for awhile is gone and you can actually function the only danger with that like meds is when you are feeling no pain you do things to your body that you will pay for when it wears off and then the cycle continues but so does meds so you just have to decide what is better for you.

Pharmaceutical company's make big money and that big money donate to alot of politicians campaigns which they make our laws. There is alot of tit for tat going on in our government.

Thanks for the idea, I am going to look to see if I can watch it. I completely agree with brokeyolk. We spend millions of dollars, if not billions, processing and encarcerating pot users, in Florida even a few roaches will get you in jail, it is ridiculous!! With all of that money they could be building homes for the disable, feeding all of the hungry, and housing those that are on the streets due to mental illness.

At one time I worked as a social worker in a women and children shelter in the Fla. Keys, and it was so sad to see these women and children been thrown out of their houses because of life circumstances. Some of them were victims of the system, others lost their jobs, and most had an absent dad that stopped paying for the child support. Could y'all imagine how many people we could help???

Hi Honor, i did not see the show, but here in Calif. it is legal if you have a card from your doctor. But the federal government can still arrest people because they have not legalized it. Iam all for anything that will help people who are suffering.

I dont get it, so if you have a card they can still arrest you? that doesnt make sense!
My friend lives in Cali and she says the places that sell it have all these choices and ask you what kind of pain your having and where, then tell you which one to use, hmm all I remember from the " old days" is getting very paranoid!

As most of you know I am a recovering alcoholic/adict. Long history of abusing drugs.
Well now because of my severe adiction I can not take pharm. meds. all they do is wake up my addiction and it is just a mess!
I live in a Commonwealth bible belt state so I dont see medical mj ever being acepted.
Well I know that MJ is awsome for pain, nerve pain excellent relief!!! The problem with gettin MJ legal is soooo hard because the people who would rally or anything will be targeted and investigated because really, if you are fighting for it you most likely are already doing it! BIG catch 22!
But personally I am very fortunate as the way I get mine is fool proof safe because of WHO I get it from. My doctors know and dont put it in my record. They are all for it and are behind me and actually they are happy that I have something that works.
Anyway, however you find pain relief be greatful!!!
