Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

Too many things are stacking against me today. Most of it is pain or pain related.
I woke up before the dogs did because I hurt so bad I couldn't sleep. I took four Advil and that helped enough that I got back to sleep for an hour or so when the dogs needed to go outside.
Then I just sat at my desk and stared at the blank screen of my computer for almost two hours because I hurt too bad to reach down and pick up the bottle of vicadin.
This is also the third day out of five that I am alone - alone in the house for the first time in over three years. I have not been alone for more than a few hours since I started falling three years ago. If hubby was here, he would have gotten my pain meds for me - which added a bit of depression to everything. Finally, he called to check on me, got me moving. Since I hadn't had any real pain killers, I drove for the first time in 8 months. It was just over two miles to the local espresso stand and it was terrifying. It was also loud as I took all the dogs with me.
When I got back, now that I had liquid, I took a couple vicadin, my muscle relaxants, prozac, anti-panic, hormones, Aleve, and aspirin, and actually turned on my computer and played games until the pain came down enough to actually think.
Then I made the mistake of thinking I could move today. I cut out the material for a kid's dress. It took me about two hours as my hands were shaking. When I put the last piece down I went to stretch my back and realized I could not feel it...
I took another dose of vicadin knowing that the change in position would let the pain catch up to my brain, and it did. I used my tens unit and though it helped, I still hurt so bad I want to cry. I can't though, cause it would make my back hurt worse.
The dogs are asking to go outside again, but there is no way I can stand up, let alone walk to the front door. I have taken 20mg of hydrocodone (vicoden) in the last three hours, and it feels like there are 20 knives inserted two inches into my spine - one at each disc space and a few to each side for good measure.
Hubby will fly home tomorrow at 4pm. I just have to drive the 45 miles to the airport before I take my meds so I can pick him up.
I am so tired of pain...

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

i wish i had some good advice for you... im lucky enough that i can walk around, usually, but i know what its like to be in pain all the time... and my mom, who i took care of until just recently, knew all about back pain... and i know all about helping someone who hurts when they move
i wish i could be there to help
just keep looking forward to the time when he gets in the drivers seat... maybe that'll help some
im sorry you hurt so much

I don't know you or your situation, but your taking quite a bit of Short Term narcotics and with those your getting alot of APAP (Tylenol) plus your taking Naproxen and Aspirin. Have you considered talking to your Pain Doc about a Long Term Pain med, so that your getting full 12 hour coverage that keeps your BPL (blood plasma level) at a steady level, as opposed to all the hills and valleys that the Vicodin are causing? Vicodin has a very short half-life so a couple hours after you take it,it's been metabolized and it's done working. But taking 20mgs in 3 hours means your either not taking it as directed or your just not making it until its time for the next dose.
A Long Term Narcotic is dosed every 12 hours its short released in your body throughout the day and when you take the 2nd dose it completes the coverage before the first does has completely worn off.
Hope you get some sleep tonight.

Trust me, we looked into every possibility before settling on me driving. The shuttle service that would just get him close would run over $200 - more than the plane trip!
But, I am writing this with hubby home. I survived the drive - though it was every bit of agony I expected it to be.
There is always hope that tomorrow will be better. Today is almost over and hubby will rub the knots out of my back when we head to bed so I can sleep.
love and hugs to everyone!
