Is the DEA CDC going too far?

Before I post this. Please let me know if it is too dark or depressing for this group. I know we're supposed to stay positive in here. But how can we stay positive when the cirrent political climate is going too far. Not everyone can manage their pain with OTC meds. 


This is just getting ridiculous. I read another story of a pain clinic being forced to shut down and a man killed himself because no one would treat his pain. He called 911 a few times saying he couldn't sleep or eat and begged for help. He tried new doctors and no one would help him. He used 2 guns. One on each side of his head to make sure the job was done. This is a man living with a crushed spine and was doing well on opioids and muscle relaxers for many years. He has a proven conditions known to cause pain and had many surgeries and still denied help. Why? I thank god I do not have pain on that level, because it is hard for me to just get 30-40 mgs a day of meds. If I had an increase in pain to that level, who would help or listen? Even my current pharmacy is only comfortable with my low dose of meds. They told me they would have issue if my doses ever changed. Why? Why do we have all of these meds to treat people and then deny treatment? Common sense would say that if a person has a severe injury that cannot be fixed, they will probably be on pain meds for the rest of their lives. Who cares about dependence if you will be on meds for life? It's a shame people have to be denied care for actual provable medical conditions.

Something to know about Good Rx, and this is probably a state by state thing. I live in NJ, and I tried to use Good Rx with xanax and I could not. All I was told by the pharmacies was that I could not use Good Rx on controlled substances. 2 different pharmacies told me this.

Thanks YvetteK for that info. I popped back over to the GoodRX site and here's what they say:

Pharmacies listed on GoodRx are contractually obligated to honor most coupons we display. However, discounts for controlled substances are honored at the discretion of the individual pharmacy or pharmacist. We are unable to require a pharmacy to fill the prescription or accept the coupon for a controlled medication, but the vast majority of pharmacies will honor coupons for controlled substances, and all pharmacies listed on GoodRx continue to honor GoodRx coupons and discount cards for controlled substances on an individual basis.

In an effort to avoid confusion, we display a warning on most controlled substance price pages so consumers are aware before presenting a coupon.

If your pharmacist is refusing to accept the discount, please give us a call at (855) 268-2822 (M-F, 9:00AM – 6:00PM CST). Our GoodRx Advocates are always happy to help, and can typically resolve most issues while you’re in the pharmacy.

This truly is a ridiculous policy. I suffer from severe anxiety and you know what is helping me. It's the Clonidine. I take it for uncontrolled high BP, but if I go out in public 30 minutes after taking this med, I can walk in crowds and in the super-market without fear and adrenaline surges. Loud noises do not bother me at all. I am completely relaxed. I have never been this relaxed before. Grant you it only lasts for a few hours because I only take one Clonidine per day to control my BP. But if this is what an actual benzo would do for my anxiety. I would be able to work in an office around people, go to college without the overwhelming sense of dread and fear. Why would the government want to punish people for getting relief from terrible mental issues just because they are also living in chronic pain. I actually want to try a long acting benzo now just to see if it would change my life. But sadly I am afraid to ask for one because my pharmacist might freak out. Also, I don't want to become dependent on Benzo's knowing that they can be yanked from me at the drop of a hat. I will just suffer and hope they never take my Clonidine away because it supposedly can also potentiate pain meds. I wonder if they're going to ban grapefruit juice because it can potentiate opiates and also Nexium for potentiating them as well lol.

I wish someone would go into DEA headquarters, break a few agents legs and then when they are screaming in pain, hand them a bottle of Tylenol. Tell them that's all you need to treat pain and they will be fine. I'm just joking here, but I wonder if that would get the point across.

New sign at my PM Docs office yesterday...

Wal-Mart and Sams club pharmacies will no longer be filling ANY narcotic scripts.

IDK if that's just here or everywhere.

It seems to be government ins. that's having the issue. I'm on benzo's for BiPolar that I get from my Pdoc. I get my Pain Meds from my Pain Mgmt doc. I have BCBSNC and I've not had any trouble getting any scripts filled for either.

That's a shame too Jacee because a lot of low income people who pay cash for their meds go to Wal-Mart and they used to charge like 18 bucks for 60 Norco when everyone else was charging like 60 dollars for the same RX. It's going to hurt a lot of patients. Wal-mart doesn't realize how many patients they have with other illnesses and when they pull all of their scripts, they will feel the pain.

I got bashed for posting the Wal-Mart will no longer filling more than 5 days wort of pain meds. They don't care if you're in pain management. There is now this ridiculous commercial going around on TV saying that you can get hooked on opioids in five days or less lol. And about how dangerous they are. It should be against the law to discriminate against an entire subset of medical patients just because addicts are abusing prescription pills.

I have read many articles and posts from supposedly chronic pain patients. They state how their doctors told them the government is making them stop or reduce the opiates they prescribe. You never see anything from the doctors. If doctors really did not agree with lower dose or no opioifd for some patients. They would be addressing this to the right people. The truth is the vast majority of doctors are in favor of reducing or lower the opiates they prescribe.

There are a small number of doctors saying publicly the government is forcing things. But, they don't amount to anything when you look at how many doctors are not saying anything..
