Hi,
In the last few months, has anyone else found the Mylan patch to be less than acceptable quality? Some in the same box work ok, others seem to be weak enough to dilate pupils and make me feel W/D sick. They certainly don't last 72 hours.
Additionally, at least one, usually two out of ten don't adhere, and wrinkle up under my tegaderm dressing. I wash the skin, defat with alcohol, let it dry well before applying, and all that stuff. These things are the Edsel of pain control.

This isn't really bipolar related but there is never anyone on the parenting groups, this is the most active group I've been in.My 6yr old son has really bad seasonal allergies and they're in full force right now. He gets a terrible cough; he coughs all day and all night, making it hard for him to sleep, and his nose runs.I've tried every allergy medicine, OTC and RX, and none of them affect his...

Is anyone here allergic to Sulfa that is currently taking Diamox? I have been diagnosed with IH now for almost 2 years. I am allergic to Sulfa drugs meaning that my throat will swell up so my Neurologist put me on Topamax. I was suffering from major loud whoosing noises and the topamax helped that but everyday I still hear those mainly between 6 - 12 pm. I am at my wits end and have not went...
Yes, since my injury I am heat intolerant and have flashes myself. You would think the 4 Narcos would keep the W/Ds away, but only blunt them, and I still get sick from the patches that don't work.
I suppose I'll try the Sandoz, as they are the only other game in town. It would be nice if the doc would intercede on this.

i have never heard of the W/D's and i would like to know if it is the same sick feeling i sometimes get with the patches.

I am wearing my day one which is doing very little. I see the PM Monday, and Sunday promises to be hell, unless this works through tomorrow; in which case I have several tramadol that tend to help if I take "x" tablets in the morning, and "X" tablets in the afternoon. (I do not prescribe on the board or otherwise). And particularly if I drink grapefruit juice 2 hours or so before . Grapefruit juice if taken and allowed to empty from the stomach tends to potentiate opioids so * take it with caution* (see grapefruit juice effect-Wikipedia will lead you to more scientific sites).
These patches are trash. I didn't start my prescribed opiates so I could spend my time chasing W/Ds away, and hurt anyway.

Heat will cause any of the fentanyl patches to release the medication quicker, whether the heat be from an outside source (heating pad, hot shower, etc.) or inside (having a temperature).
In addition, everyone is different and the patches don't work for the full 72 hours for everyone (for me they don't work at all, nor does IV Fentanyl...now there's a fun one!). We each have to find our own dose and timing and work with our doctors to get the right prescription to get maximum relief without the breakthrough pain, without too much medication or too little relief...and to always have a breakthrough pain medication available just like patients on any other sustained release medication have!
Best wishes for a pain free Sunday!
Well, finally saw my MD rather than the PA. Switched to Avinza. Too early to tell, but can't be any worse than the patch. He finally got it through his head that I have been on the same dosages for over 3 years. To my suprise, he acknowledged that DEA has PM docs over a barrel between helping patients and being investigated by DEA.
Will also be tested for adrenal function, testosterone levels, and possibly thyroid, as I told him that I had learned that long term opioid use can cause a syndrome affecting hormones.

In my little piece of paradise, the state seems to be very intolerant of good care. When I was a sedationist or working in recovery room, my patients were comfortable, (even when I got a dentist [ha ha])and I wasn't averse to calling the doc and demanding a different analgesic if one didn't work. Plus I studied pain, equigesic doses, et.c. and could back up my judgments. I felt that people put their trust in me, and I refused to violate that trust.
