Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

I've had an epidural steroid injection for nerve damage pain in my leg and foot from blood clot surgeries. So far it's lessened my pain by at least 80%, at rest. If I'm walking a lot or a long distance or my leg or foot bumps something, it hurts like before.
I'm to get another injection this next week. The goal is to at least lessen the pain for a long period of time. The surgeon asked me if I could live with less pain compared to no pain, say like under 20%. He is using percentages to gauge the pain levels and keep track.
Has anybody any experience with injections and time frames of pain relief I'd be interested in reading. I realize we're all different in what we can tolerate or our results but in general I wonder if those results are mostly successful. I'll still get the injections because the numbness on the first day was much needed and the following days have been less pain.
Thank you

So mad at Xfinity! They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today! Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...

I know this is stupid, but after not being able to find a job after graduation for almost two years, I ended up just taking an online teaching job because I couldn't find anything in my field. I was trying to get out of teaching and I feel so devastated. I felt this crushing feeling when I signed the paperwork and when I was in the meetings. I know that sounds so dramatic but it is how I felt. It...

sorry you have the issue with nerve pain.....I know a bit about neuropathy which I now have to take gabapentin about.....but that is different again too....
I wouldn't want to do a burn of the nerves. Sounds like it would aggravate it.
I've taken Gabapentin and had to stop because of side effects.
What I've read is the average patient gets relief from the injections, I don't know if that means a long time, or how much-partial or complete pain relief.
It WAS really easy,
didn't hurt and very quick. I felt I wasn't sure what to expect no matter what the Dr and staff told me.
Dr did say it depends on the patient etc etc what the permanent results would be. I am still having less pain than I did and am looking forward to the next injection in hopes of being able to move freer again with less pain.
Thank you billwfriend
I'm sorry you are living with nerve pain, neuropathy. Good you are doing well.
I had an epidural for extreme DJD in the lower pack in early January. I felt great for about a month, but the pain came back with a vengeance about a week ago. I am having another injection in a month. I have had some med changes as well (went off pristiq an onto zoloft).
I am learning how med changes can change our pain levels.
One thing that's helped a little is using Lidocaine patches. Even with insurance and a coupon they were pricey but they've helped a bit along with Tylenol. You can buy the on amazon to give them a try. Many stores like CVS and Walmart sell them in small quantities as well.
Oh no that's not good your pain returned so bad. Hope this next injection will work better.
I haven't tried Lidocaine patches, some in my family are like allergic to them so I hadn't
considered them
but will ask my
doctor. Glad it's
helped you even though a little, helping you get through until your next injection?
I had a med change with migraine meds and initially the pain level before relief was higher, now it's like the former migraine med I took, it works. I haven't changed many meds. Other things, affecting my
levels have been severe.
I'm really hoping the injections will override all that. Lately some new info from a family member is that they can work great but for how long depends. Your case too where the pain comes back after working. Good luck on your next one. I'm hoping for it to work on mine.
Thank you
have surgery but there don't seem to be many options. BTW, I've been getting injections for years as my pain has worsened. If you're just starting to get them you may do really well. When they work they are amazing. Good luck!!
