i cant take narctics either its tough but what to do gl hugs

what will happen to you if you take it? how did you find out that you were allergic to it?

My hands started turning. . red and I stared itching really. bad I went to the hospital and they said that I am allergic to the pain medicine that they gave me. I can't take any pain medicine. . that contains Codeine.

List of pain meds that I cannot take. Atarax Celebrex Demerol Dilaudid Elavil Lortab Naprosyn Percocet Oxycontin Vicodin

OMG! I have no idea what I would do if that happened to me. Is therre anything else that they can do? I've known other people that had a codeine allergy...it seems that I remember them taking something else.
I had a family member in excruciating pain after surgery several years ago and the Dr. had given her Duramorph and said that he couldn't give her anything else for pain. They wound up giving her a shot that worked. I don't remember what it was. I said, "I thought you couldn't give her anything else for pain." They said that it was something else.

Tabby, I"m sorry you had this reaction to codeine.

Have you ever tried Morphine (MSContin, MSIr). It's seems purer and is more natural than some of the synthetic opiods. You may not have a reaction to this.

And there's always Fentanyl patches- although it is also a synthetic opiod.

Thanks No I have never tried those. I just hate that I can't take anything for this pain. I am hurting. I have tried to just deal with it. But I just can't I hope they can find something that I am not allergic to.

I'm so sorry you are having these problems. could they give you something to offset the allergy reactions. I hope they can come up with something to help.

I'm sorry Tabby I've had reaction to pain meds too, at the hospital they gave me bendryl in my iv to fight the itching, and when I went home on Vicodin I had itching and they told me to bendryl as well, and than they called in percocets.
then if I go a few months to a yr or more I don't get itchy at all I just have to keep an eye on it, but I've learned after this always keep bendryl in the house.

I'm hoping that you and your doctors can find an answer on how to deal with your pain. hang in there

Thanks. I had no Idea That I was allergic to it. Now they have to find something else that I can take. I am hurting a lot tonight. I took Tylenol but its not helping. I hope I don't have to go back to The hospital. I hate hospitals
