Hi, I had an anterior cervical disctomey and fusion done Nov. 6th. It was c5-c7. I had cages put in and a plate and screws put in. I have been doing well since then. I have the same problem in my L5-S1. I have Degenerative disc disease. After 6 weeks of physical therapy, medications and injections on the back,, my surgeon and I have decieded that my only option is having surgery again. So I am having surgery on May 7th. My question is: has anyone had these types of surgery 6 months apart and how did it go? I also have fibro, and am a insulin dependant diabetic. I have been laid up for 6 months already, not looking forward to another surgery. thanks

My father had similar surgeriens but on his neck and back. he's a type 2 diabetic. and usually a very active person. My stepmom called me all in a tisey because he was up on the roof fixing a leak about 5 weeks after his 2nd surgery, which was waaaayyy before he was supposed to be doing that kind of activity, if even at all. He's doing pretty well. He's an ex-marine and is the no-meds kind of guy, so he had some trouble dealing with that side of it.

If your doing well after the first surgery, hopefully with PT you'll be doing well after the next.

Wow that is really soon after the first one! I had a lumbar 3 level fusion June 2011. Well very long story short, due to the 2 levels below failing, screws shifting, and it not fusing properly, I am looking at another surgery in June. This time fusing the entire lumbar. We will use a bone growth stimulator to help it fuse

I know exactly how you feel. I see my surgeon next week and hopefully that will help me make a decision.

So why do you need a 2nd surgery? Will it be the same kind & levels?

I've had cervical discectomy C6-7, worked out ok. Have had many lumbar surgeries not with discectomies, but laminectomies, but unfortunately have more pain than before I started.
