IBS A.K.A. "The Knot"

OK! Here I go again! I am now absolutely certain that my condition is IBS : The knots in the gut, very sluggish digestion bordering on constipation, gassy, major discomfort throughout abdomen especially in knot areas. Feel full all the time even though I've not eaten.
Looked at the FODMAP diet and am considering doing elimination diet.
I know what triggered it: trying new anti-depressant (Effexor) just killed my gut and triggered this major episode that has NEVER been so painful before. Got off the Effexor early this eek and am trying Prozac. Fingers crossed.
Am eating oatmeal and kiwis and dare not eat anything else!
Also looked into a yoga sequence to do for IBS which I will do in about 5 minutes! Anything to get this settled down
Do any of you have any other tips on how to settle this down once it is in major flare? Am taking supps from Naturopath and bicarbonate of soda before meals , but not much change.
I am so, so tired of this illness!

Don't lots of vegetables, too many vegetables, make us blow up? I'm trying to keep them to a minimum. I have been eating sweet potatoes and cauliflower (not on the same day) and haven't had a problem. I've become scared of salads although I don't know if they really bother me.

Anyone else have a problem with salads? Maybe not too many leafy greens is good?

I'm with you Maris, I'm afraid to put anything in my mouth too. I had some hummus the other day and it seemed OK in small doses.

Hollie - for a list of foods that are safe and unsafer to eat with IBs, google FODMAP diet for IBS. It will telly you very clearly what is a NO- NO and what is OK and why. there are number of sites, but they all say the same thing.s There are actually many things we can eat and there may only be a few things that bug us we just have to identify what it is --- Oh Joy!

I have had to eat this way since 2008. I like bell peppers, oatmeal, cranberries, bananas, rice (white), candy (bad of me), soup, meat (although red meat is a bit of a problem because it digests slowly), squash is okay, I eat a lot of salads, and a smoothie every day. It's one of the most limiting and hard to follow diets out there. Plus if you have to cut dairy and gluten.....
