I was flipping TV stations the other day & came across a program called "House Hunters". It's where an agent takes the featured family/couple around looking at houses they are looking to buy. This family was looking for a 2nd (I think vacation home) in Texas. They were a family of 4, mom, dad, son, daughter. They currently lived in a I think abt 3,000 sq ft house. But they needed the perfect pool, mom needed a lake view, son & daughter each wanted their own bathroom so they didn't have to share, etc. etc.
So they were shown 3 diff homes. One complained abt no lake view, one complained abt no music room, kids didn't have their own bathroom, the dining rooms so small(meanwhile it was as big as half my house), one gigantic bathroom had the toilet in a separate corner/room with a frost glass door (mom said ooh, yuck I don't like that door) etc. etc.
Finally they where shown a house, almost abt 6,000 sq ft or so. Kids had their own delux bathrooms, parents had a walk in closet dressing room with a bathroom you can hold a dance in, kids had an entertainment room, poor dad was going to have to build a music room similar to what he had in their 1st house though, poor guy.
It made me absolutely ill cause I thought of all the kids & families in poor poor countries around the world that maybe live in little huts/shacks & wonder if they're gonna have a meal every day or something to sleep on, maybe even all in one room, let alone everything I mentioned above, kids that maybe only dream of toys, TV's, stereos, etc. etc.
Some of the $1.2 million they were spending sure could feed, house, cloth a lot of poor suffering kids in the world.
I was almost disgusted to have to think of myself as a member of the human race. Sure would love to hear fr everyone - am I just too emotional, too sensitive or is this an example of some of the sad state of affairs of todays world.

I've been on a couple short-term mission trips to Peru and let me tell you, I saw what you describe first hand when it comes to poor countries. Even today, I have to hold back my own temptation to lash out at complainers who gripe about the littlest things where they already have much more than what people in third world countries could dream of. It upsets me to no end, knowing that it's all about me, me, me.
Some other poster said it right, they're spoiled. The parents who are spoiled themselves are spoiling their kids. This doesn't happen just in the unsaved world, some Christians even act this way.
You're not alone in your sensitivity and definitely, you're NOT too sensitive.
What I recommend is that first we pray about this and that we come together as Christians and live our lives to help others. Remember, God will recognize this and we will be rewarded by showing His love for us when we love the poor. What keeps me wanting to go to Peru time and time again is to help those who can't help themselves and share the Lord with them. It is a blessing to be able to be used in this way.
So, in response, I ask: What should we as Christians do with money? How much is enough? Also, how do we best serve Him with our money? These are all important questions that we must answer. I'll tell you that we are nowhere close to even the bottom estimate of proposed Christians in this country. We're probably standing at between 25 percent to 30 percent of true believers, if that.
Let our number one and only One be Jesus Christ who died for us.
