Okay, here we go..
A lot of my kitchen items starting to go missing a year or so ago. Most of the items that went missing were expensive items. We'd ask her if she saw them or what happened to them and she would become very defensive and irate and deny having taken anything. So, we thought she was becoming forgetful and maybe storing things in the attic or basement and when we couldn't find them anywhere in the house so we even took a few walks out into the woods to see if she was dumping things there. That's when I posted out here and Tigg told me to get the d-link camera. We did but didn't really see her doing much of anything. We told her the camera was for security but I think she knew better.
In talking with the neighbor one day he asked DH how things were going with the MIL, (she's not very friendly to this man when he stops in) and DH told him not well, we have things going missing in the house, can't find them etc. Neighbor said my mother had been to the transfer station a few times but never thought of it other than she was disposing of stuff on our behalf. He said he would keep an eye out at that point and keep anything aside for us. That was how I was going to confront her. DH was talking to my brother and told him about the camera and what was happening at the dump and all of a sudden the activity stopped so we believe my brother talked to her. I asked my brother about saying something to her and he denied it but I believe he did.
All that activity stopped several months ago but just recently started up again. The neighbor came down with cancer awhile back and is not working anymore so we don't have backup at the station now.
I did confront her Saturday when I couldn't find my one last spatula and I just lost it. I know spatula's sound like a small item to get so upset about but it's really the last straw for me. I told her I'd had it with my stuff going missing in which she denied it again. We've barely spoken since then until last night. When I got home from work she was now trying to be sweet and tell me there's nothing wrong with buying my new spatulas at Target and they're just as good as the ones from WS. I said, where did all my other ones go Ma? The transfer station? Cause I know you've visited the place before! If you all could have seen the look on her face? I'll tell ya,,,, guilty! and then she went down to her bedroom.
The conversation is not done with her. I've just been a bit down the last few days and I want to wait till I can have some self control and not yell at her. I just want her to know, that I know what she's done and started doing again.
I think she's having some resentment about having to live with me because she does well with finances, crossword puzzles etc. but her cleaning and cooking skills are definitely not what they used to be. She has a hard time following conversations and forgets often where she puts things.
I'll perk up, just need a day or so. I don't mind her living with me even though it's tough sometimes on the privacy etc. but to have to go through these types of issues with her? And that wasn't all, I fell a number of weeks back helping her with an errand and tore ligaments in my foot and elbow. I was down for awhile and she helped with nothing and wouldn't acknowledge that I was crippled up with a boot on the foot, a wrap on the elbow. Cripes, I looked and felt like the accident victim I was. Not a good feeling when your hurt and your mother acts like your just an inconvenience. I'm feeling like I don't want to care for her anymore and I don't like having those feelings.
So, there it is, that's my story lately. I don't post often about my problems with her because everyone else is going through so much more.

Forgive me if you have already spoken about this but is there any way you can get her out? Can she afford AL?
I really wish you could get her out, and I hope you heal up quickly.
As for AL,,, yes, she could afford it but there's been many different commercials on tv lately about these places. One was aired one morning and she just went off about it, they're so expensive and a person's life savings would be sucked up in no time! Scared the daylights out of DH and I but we got the point. lol
I had a good laugh between yours and HCARD's posts though. Laughing about an issue puts things in a better perspective!
The foot is much better and that was a grade 2 sprain, it's the elbow, grade 1, that kept me off here for a few weeks around Christmas and is still giving me problems. You would think with a grade 1 that's not a tear would heal faster. I couldn't type for very long without loosing feeling in the hand. I think I already told you about this didn't I? It might have been Tigg.
Alright, now that I've aired all my dirty laundry, I feel better! I should do this more often....
We all have different stressors in life, and we all have different abilities to deal with them.
For example, alcohol has absolutely no hold on me what so ever. A 6 pack of bear has been known to last 6 years in my fridge, and gets opened only to see if it is still good, and then that can and the other 5 get thrown out. 5 years later I go and buy another 6 pack of beer.
But peanut M7Ms and mountain dew are things that I have a lot of trouble with. Friends here have helped me get over those 2 addictions even though others were fighting far worse problems.
Your mom is treating you poorly and it is having a negative impact on your overall health. That is a serious thing, and we are here to support you what ever it takes.
A friend in the depression board quoted somebody as saying "Comparison is the thief of joy". By that they meant that when we compare our lives to the lives of others who appear to be happier we deny our selves the joy we should be experiencing.
So let me paraphrase my friend.
"Comparison is the thief of coping" If we think that others have much worse things to cope with than we do, and it prevents us from seeking support from friends, then it has worked to block us from coping with our issues.
Your issues matter, and so do you our dear friend! So please, continue to vent about this. We'll help you laugh about it, and we will listen to you when you bounce ideas off us. And we will celebrate with you when you find something that works or minimizes the problem for you!
My mother has been complaining for months that my father has been throwing things away. They live on their own so I don't really know who is doing the tossing. It could even be her!
What you said about your brother rang true with me. I would love to have mine as an ally, but he does the same thing, telling after you discussed something. What's wrong with them?
Hope things get better soon.
Hugs and Smiles.
I don't post much about my home life so most folks don't know the extent of what's been going on. I've spoken to my mother's doctor so often about her issues and memory problems that she went ahead and did a basic test to detect dementia. She passed the test. Her doctor feels that any memory loss she may have is contributed to old age only. She believes that my mother is manipulative and that elderly personalities change as they get older. What her personality didn't consist of years back does now.
She's caused a number of problems between myself, brother and sister with her fabrications, well, downright lies and they're terrible lies! More like character assassination lies. Last summer my brother called me very upset and asked if DH and I were having financial problems? I said, uh no, oh God, what has she been telling you now? She told brother and sister that her accounts were going down because she was paying everything in the house for us. DH and I were mortified!!!!!!! Roy went so far as to start pulling every paid bill for the last year, home insurance, taxes, utilities etc. - demanded I pdf them all and send them to brother and sister. It took forever but I did and sent them off. The response from both was, "Oh, I wonder why she would lie about that, what's wrong with her?" But, the whole ordeal was pretty much dismissed by both of them. So, I went to my Mother and asked her why she would tell them such horrible lies. Her justification was, "oh, I always offer you two money, you just don't take it" "They must have misunderstood me".. I said, NO they didn't and "YOU" are causing problems between your own children! Of course when you confront her, she starts the crying to the other two that I'm being mean to her! ppfffffffffffff
That was a very embarrassing time for us last summer that we had to prove to people that we're maintaining the home and that I don't have my greasy fingers in her bank accounts! I haven't forgiven that yet. It's so embarrassing and so insulting!
I can perfectly relate to Trojan's feelings lately. She doesn't deserve to be living with me, she doesn't deserve our loyalty and she doesn't deserve the way we dote on her; the traitorous old biddy!
Sorry guys, a little bit of sympathy in my direction and I'm off on a tangent again!
I am happy I have friends where she is going that will not buy into it.
My mother used to tell me back then, "If I ever do something like this to any of my children and make up such lies, just shoot me!" I'm tempted!!!!!!!!
That's okay, got a text from my sister this morning that she caught our mother in a lie. She said she'd send me an email or call me today to talk about it...
I think she's pit my brother and I against each other. She tells me about stuff to hide from him, It must be the same way around. Who knows. We've never gotten straight answers. Now that she's all confused it's even harder to know any truth.
I'll be talking to the dr again. She also had a memory assessment. She did OK except for the math, to count backwards from 100 by 7's. She started out OK, but then got frustrated and angry.
