Caring For Aging Parents Support Group
Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.
This will be nothing new to some members here, but I feel compelled to say this.
Since my mom requires care and moderately close supervision...
I cannot work full time.
I have not had a vacation or time away from home in 8 years.
I have missed out on outings, events, and parties because someone needed to stay home with my mom.
I prepare meals. I make sure Ma takes her medications properly. I do laundry. I manage finances. I provide very personal care. I clean her room and bathroom. I help her manage her phone so she can chat with family members from time to time. I shop and keep her supplied with incontinence supplies, etc.
If it's a good day, I get a smile and a "thank you". If not, there is silence and what I can only describe as pained resignation on Ma's part.
My mom barely speaks to any of us, rarely joins family discussions, and spends most days sitting in a chair reading the same books over and over (or sleeping). There are no greetings (such as "good morning") and few inquiries as to anyone's activities or well being.
I realize Ma can't help the behavioral issues (due to dementia) and I do feel for her. But the lack of interaction means the rewards are few and far between.
Just sayin'.
My mom is also a fake. She hit a car slightly, next day she hit a lady walking into a store. Didn't hurt her, but knocked her down.
My mom completely lied about what happened. I found out the truth by reading the police report.
She claims she couldn't see. I've seen her drive. She just never paid attention to anything except where she wanted to drive. Terrible driver always!
She lost her privilege to drive. She could of taken classes and took the test again but refused. She doesn't think she did anything wrong!
She can't hear. Won't wear her hearing aid
She only has one. Lost two already. No longer covered by insurance.
She's supposedly diabetic. Never watched her diet in fifteen years since supposedly diagnosed. She never takes her pills for anything but is healthy as a horse.
Maybe she was diagnosed with diabetes but she lives on cookies, pies and candy.
I'm so done dealing with her but now I'm stuck staying in Minneapolis with her. My fiance got a job here! Our home is in Wisconsin!
I lost my whole life the night my dad fell and died 3 days later.
To add to my depression, my son got in trouble. He goes to prison next month. Not sure how long. His sentence is three years but if he gets to go to boot camp he could be home in a year. He's my best friend! I'm so sad for him.
His so called friend set him up with drugs in his house. Not my son's drugs. The guy was in trouble and was a confidential informant for several police departments. To get himself out of trouble he planted drugs in sons house and told cops my son sold drugs and had them in his house.
They raided his house, trashed it, arrested my son and his kids were taken from them.
Since then a ex gf of this creep told them that her then boyfriend planted drugs there. Of course cops aren't doing anything. They arrested the wrong person which looks bad and this creep works for them.
And meanwhile I'm stuck living with my ungrateful, pampered Princess mom who doesn't give a damn about anyone but herself. And she basically is the reason my dad died.
Srnt him out on a cold night to carry in groceries. He used a cane. Could barely walk. She went to sleep. Woke up 90 minutes later, he was unconscious, and bleeding on the sidewalk. Cracked his skull, bleeding on the brain.
Yes I am depressed and angry at her and the world!
