Caring For Aging Parents Support Group
Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.

And enforce them!
So I guess my point is that maybe the problem is and always has been your mothers. Maybe you just don't want to be around her 24/7. As my brother says "you can pick your clothes and pick your nose but you can't pick your relatives"
Many elderly folks digress back to childhood behaviors however, just as many do not. This society can not always fall back on bad behavior as a sign of some type of dementia or failing mental stability. There are often times that the elderly are just plain selfish in their older age; and simply do not care who they hurt when they deem that person(s) in their way!
Your post was very gracious! thank you.
No adult can be permitted to say nasty mean spiteful things to children without consequences. If mother takes out her anger on these children, she must be removed from the environment.
Words hurt children. They are abuse the same as hitting.
No child owes any adult the right to be abused for any reason.
Mother may need to find other living arrangements if she refuses to respect that these children have a right to safety and non abusive environment.
Mean streak, just a plain mean streak!
We just recently began speaking again and her attitude is,okay I'm not mad or put out anymore, let's go shopping and sit and have lunch. She's asked me twice this weekend to go off and do something with her. I told her no both times!
As far as I'm concerned, she owes me, my DH and GK an apology! a sincere one!
Sometimes people (like my MIL) just don't even realize how the things they say hurt others...............and if she is anything like my MIL..........she doesn't care:(:(
So sorry you have to deal with this:(:(
Some how I saw Mom was not well from a young age. So I am accustomed to ill behavior. Once she went through menopause she was a tad better. Now she has good and bad days. When she expects something it is impossible for her to change her ways and she takes many down with her.
It is hard for young kids to have unexpected harshness especially if they are not treated this way most of the time. I am sure you have told the kids she is not well. Kids will talk it out if given time. You will be good for them. I hope their Mom is doing OK?
I am sorry this happened to you and hope that you feel a little better now.
P
I know I won't ever receive an apology and that's okay, as long as she doesn't direct her anger at my grandchildren again, I guess I can live with that.
It's such a shame, they adored her. Always going into her room to talk to her or just hang out with her; well the 5 and 9 year old girls anyway. Easter Sunday, they sat on the edge of their chair away from my mother and would barely look at her. Sometimes in life, you get what you ask for. She'll be sorry one day.
BUT, thank you again everyone; I really couldn't have gone through that without everyone's help here!
I dont think our parents generation for the most part understand that thier behavior is abusive. Children should be seen and not heard, Right?
Thats why the behaviors can not be tolerated.
She actually yelled at my husband last night because I was doing laundry and she saw that his work socks were inside out and I had to turn them. She just started picking at him that he was lazy and should do his own laundry;; pppppfffffff I told her to mind her business; she didn't like it but GEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
