I doubt they take away the benefit till the person dies....social security is a national program so it should not vary state to state....so my thought is no but you could call SS and speak to them to ask that type of question

I would think hospice gets the persons SS.
However, I think billwfriend has good suggestion and that is to call SS office in your state.

Are you thinking of Medicare? I know that, at least in California, Medicare will not pay for skilled nursing/nursing home if the person has any assets. Many are told to "spend down" to qualify.

Hospice care may be in a different category and, as others have said, it can vary from state to state.

It is all very confusing and complex; an additional stressor for those of us trying to hold down the fort.

Hospice and palliative are medical terms that describes the goal of care for the patient. Palliative is what we think about as standard medical care: its goal is to recognize an injury or illness and "fix" it. In hospice care it is recognized that the patient is not likely to survive the injury or illness, and the goal is to make the patient comfortable.

As with all medical conditions, the expense of treatment can vary from a little to a HUGE amount. In most (all?) cases, government funded treatment programs often require that a person use their assets to pay as much as they can, then the government will step in and help. They may or may not cover all expenses; there are charts and tables (and what ever else) that determines just what is covered and how much they will pay for it.
