Only child, no relatives, or anyone that can help.
Last year had to put my Mom in group home. She has a lot of psych and physical issues that my Dad just couldn't care for. I had lived in another state and new I was going to need to move to where they lived someday and that someday happened.
I moved, gave up my job, no spouse, just puppies and off we came. Rented a house and then bought but an hour away. Long of the short was Mom didn't want me anywhere near where she lived and without thinking I did as told.
Now she is in group home and Dad is home alone and needs me. I have room in my home for him, but he is 80 and still wants to live on his own.
I have set up as much support for him as I can. Medic alert, volunteer services and a private pay companion 4hours twice a week. With the companion it keeps his mind active and keeps him going. My problem is I keep going thru companions. Without this person Dad slowly starts to decline mentally. I have gone thru an agency, but people quit or Dad doesn't like them. I am afraid to hire outside of an agency. I don't know anyone in his area. My moms group home is near him, and selling his house and moving near me is not what he really wants to do, but..
any opinions?

So mad at Xfinity! They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today! Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...

I know this is stupid, but after not being able to find a job after graduation for almost two years, I ended up just taking an online teaching job because I couldn't find anything in my field. I was trying to get out of teaching and I feel so devastated. I felt this crushing feeling when I signed the paperwork and when I was in the meetings. I know that sounds so dramatic but it is how I felt. It...

Sorry you're having so much trouble. Agencies are difficult. They always send someone different. My parents live in a senior condo and I found one aide by asking around the complex for referrals from other aides.
Living an hour away is tough. I know you bought but maybe you should consider being closer.
Good Luck.
But as our parents age I is not always possible for them o continue to live independently. Is there room in the group home for him so he could be with your Mom?
And don't let him pull the guilt card on you!
I often find that, like with children, if you construct the options properly you can lead your parent(s) to safe and sane choices. But in the end, it must be their decision as long as they are legally capable of making decisions.
