Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. I work 3rd shift and got a call that Mom went by ambulance to ER.
The irony is that my sister was on the phone w me. Sis is getting a divorce and has trouble sleeping. I am free at work for the most of shift.So I get calls.
To leave work would mean call my boss and get him in to relieve my post. So, I waited knowing that the person who cares over night was there and Mom ok.
My sister can not be there for anyone but herself so there was no getting her to go be by Mom. I get why but am tired of no one caring about mom but me.
So Mom came home with pneumonia and her COPD in an uncomfortable place.
I tried to get a nebulizer from ER but they told me to call 911 again instead. That seemed like a dumb idea. She needed to go in for a couple days. Her insurance is good and would have paid all.
I got some liquid antibiotic for her. And bottle of grape mucinex. She is burned out on cherry. It seems to be working but she is just coughing.
Anybody at home w parent and COPD?? Advice for the coughing??
Poor lady turns 86 today. No party she says. She thinks she is going to die.

She has high lasix too so general not feeling well. Will tackle it more tomorrow.
I so appreciate your tips and thoughts here. I feel lije the only in miles doing this. Right smack dab in the middle of choas of another kind. My job. Have interview tu hoping to switch. will work days and get a helper like now. But maybe a cleaner too. Evertmything piled up in a week. It wikl take all day tomorrow to get a handle on chores. Plus some sleep??
BTW. Mom has cardio myopathy. She will have failure most likely. Or heart weakens and breaks in bottom...makes a hole and no way to revive. If miserable and struggling. Bed fast and delerious. I feel her true self is burried by symptoms. We are not theren But it is clear to let lif pass if it must. I was an EMT years ago. Good with sudden problems and now learning to tend to long term. Much opposite from my experiences. Plus its my Mom.
So will check back Mon or so with hopes of a turn for better and hear mom complain about...ah well..name it!! Hehe

It sound like you are a wonderful caring daughter. Letting them go quietly near the end is such a blessing. My mother could have been kept alive for another 6 to 8 weeks if we hooked her up to all sorts of machines. I am a devout christian and felt that was only denying the truth that the afterlife is where we are supposed to go. So I refused to make her travel back and forth and end up in ICU with no loved ones by her side. There is such a difference between healing an illness and just keeping them alive. It is very unselfish of you to be willing to allow mother to have peace. Hope you continue to have strength and courage.
I just read bh's post....which touched me. Your comments today have also. It's sometimes so hard to know what to do.
I too believe in God. My mom does also, but not sure what her relationship is with Him right now.
It would be so much easier letting go if I knew she was going to be with Him.

I believe that god will forgive anything at any point. Even walking up to those pearly gates and only then realizing mistakes, god will forgive and let people join him in heaven. The parable about the workers in the field to me is a story about him allowing people to be with him right up to the very last moment (as defined by god). All we can do is pray for our loved ones to spend eternity in heaven and do the best that we can here on earth.
